Dear Helen and Shirley,
I must have missed your earlier correspondance on Peter Cassidy and Mary
(McClung) but I caught it this morning.
I am also working on this line, as is my husband's cousin in Portsmouth,
Ohio, their ancestor was Mary Cassidy.
Mary Cassidy/Cassedy was born 6, March 1789 in Rockbridge Co., Virginia
the dau. of Peter Cassidy and Mary (McClung) Cassidy. (Mary McClung the
daughter of James McClung) Mary Cassidy died 6, May 1875 in Washington
Twp. Sardinia. Brown Co., Ohio and is buried in Sardinia Cemetery.
Mary Cassidy married (probably Rockbridge Co., Virginia) James Bell who
also lived there. According to the 1850 Brown Co., Ohio census their
children born in Ohio starting with the year 1817. (That would make Mary
(Cassidy) Bell about 28 yr in 1817----a little old for a first child ---she
probably had others.) (There is listed in 1810 Rockbridge Co., Va. census
two James Bell's and one Mary Cassedy). The family is in the 1820 Ohio
Census so they must have come to Ohio between 1810 and 1820.
Rebecca Cassidy, (the dau.of Peter Cassidy and Mary (McClung)) married
William McFadden and they also lived in Brown Co., Ohio. William McFadden
died in 1826 and Rebecca went with her children to Woodford Co., Illinois.
I have further information on this family if anyone needs it .
I have been pouring over Rockbridge Co., Virginia records and found in the
marriage records 1778 to 1801 a marriage with no date for;
James McClung (Capt.) and Polly Campbell.
Saml. Campbell, bondsman.
William Campbell and Jno. Campbell witnesses.
I am wondering if this couple might be Mary (McClung) Cassidy's parents!!!!
Just a thought.
There are a couple of other McClung marriages listed in this record.
I will be interested in hearing from you on this family group.
