Roxanne,
I'm a little confused about which man married Rose Wat(t)ers. In your
previous post, you said <<'m having trouble finding information on my
g-grandfather, John Patrick Cassidy, SR. He was born in Sept 1896 and passed
away in Nov (I believe) of 1946. He married a Rose Wat(t)ers, date I'm not
sure of.>>
You also say "I am having no luck really on finding anything about him or his
parents." Here are some things to try if you have not already done so:
Get a copy of his marriage record for John Patrick and his wife. Do you have
an idea of where he got married? The record should tell you his parents'
names. You should also obtain a death certificate for him, and try to find
an obituary. Then check the 1900 or 1910 US census for Toledo and see if
you can find John Patrick with his parents. You can access the censuses
through the LDS Family History Centers or at a branch of the National
archives. Death certificates can be got from the state or maybe the county
where he died (assuming Ohio again here?)
The censuses will tell you the year of his parents' marriage and if they were
the immigrants, it will tell when they arrived and if the father was a
naturalized citizen.
Basically, you need to gather everything you can in this country before
trying to go back to Ireland. The County Cork info may be correct, or it may
just mean that the ship they came on left from County Cork, while they
actually lived elsewhere. If they were from Cork, that is good news, because
Cassidy is not a common name there. But you need to find out more before you
can make that leap over the water.
I hope that helps. If you have further questions, don't hesitate to ask.
