The following message was sent to me (Stephen Cassidy) via the Cassidy
Clan website. I told Alan Compton (at
alan(a)bilbey-compton.freeserve.co.uk) that I would sent it onto the
Cassidy rootsweb email group. Hopefully, some members with records on
Brooklyn Cassidys can provide assistance.
Here is Alan's original message:

Hello,
My name is Alan Compton and I live in Cheltenham, England. I found your
website and was particularly interested because I believe my
great-grandfather was a New York Cassidy.
His name was James Cassidy. He was born at No, 18 or 20, Hudson Avenue,
N.Y. on the 19th January, 1861m and was baptized January, 27th 186, at
the Assumption Church, 64, Midagh Street, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A.
His parents were Thomas Cassidy and Anne Conway.
I made the connection because your website shows a baptism of a John
Cassidy on the 22 March 1855 at the same church and to the same
parents.
The story becomes a little muddy after this because, according to
family anecdote, Anne Conway became ill when James was quite young and
a relative came and took him back to Scotland and brought him up as
their own son. From there on he was known as James Jordon.
In 1928 a relative, Ben Jordon, visited New York and met members of the
family there, thus uncovering much of the detail of the story. He wrote
much of this down in a document, an abstract of which has been passed
to me.
As my partner and I have been investigating our family history I would
be interested in any information on the New York family and, in
exchange, I could offer details of what happened to James Jordon and
his descendants. The Ben Jordon document is particularly interesting
although a little rambling and difficult to follow.
Thank you
Alan Compton
