I am trying to find info on Lilly Mae Cassidy, born in St. Louis, about 1873. Several
errors in the 1880 St. Louis leaves me confused as to the name, A. Cassidy, of her only
living parent, and its' sex. It looks like it was originally M, and changed to F. But
the places of birth of Lillys parents match for the only parent being male. That parent
was a dressmaker. I found an Annie Cassidy, dressmaker, widow of John, in the city
directory, off and on until 1887. Then, in 1890, Lilly Mae shows up in Pitts., living
with Cyrus Horner, who was a boarder with her parent in the 1880 census in St. Louis. She
was married in 1890, age 17, and listed her name as Lilly Mae Horner. I have requested the
guardian consent for that marriage. She used several surnames during her lifetime, but I
believe she was only married once, in 1890, to William John Havis. Someone has checked for
me in St. Louis for adoption/guardian/probate info, and found nothing. A request for a
birth cert came back !
"not found". From living relatives who remember her, she also went by the
surnames Lund, Montecello, and Fitsgibbons; she ran a rooming house in Chicago, and her
father was a jockey. According to the 1880 census, A. Cassidy was born in Ark., this ones
parents born in Va. and Ohio, and the missing parent was born in Kentucky. Ark. was listed
as Lillys' father POB and KY as her mothers. In future censuses, Lilly listed her
father as being born in France. I am mostly relying on the 1880 census right now, because
I only have a 1910 and 1930 IL census for her and her data is different on both. I have
death info on 2 John Cassidys, who died in the 1870s. Neither born in Ark or KY. There was
an Annie who died in 1900, but there is not enough info to see if she is the same one. I
would appreciate ANY help, as this has been a huge brick wall for several years.
