Shirley, where Cortlandt's NY reg't was from ? What county, I mean?
I'm not descended from him but there was a Cassidy in my area of
Putnam (then Dutchess) County.

I would love to take my line back to Ireland. The earliest one is
Neal born
about 1702 and died July 1767 Rockbridge County, Virginia.
Children:
Peter, John, born about 1751; James, b. about 1753; Patrick, born
about
1758.
Peter is my line. He was born about 1756, and died before 15
August 1804,
Rockbridge County, Virginia. He married 26 Oct. 1781, Mary McClung,
Rockbridge County, Virginia. Peter served first in the Battle of
Point
Pleasant and then in the Rev. War in a New York Regiment. As
family history
goes, Peter was on his way to Pennsylvania and decided to enlist in
a PA
regiment . A New York Regiment was in need of men so Peter was
transferred
to Col. Philip Cortlandt's in 1777 and served to 1783. Was at
Valley Forge
where his enlistment states his term was for the war. He did
remain in
until fighting ended.
Peter and Mary had 12 children, 6 boys, 6 girls. Have located the
boys but
not all the daughters. This family spelled the name later as
Cassaday.
Early records show, Cassidy, Cassady and Casady.
Have wondered if the Neal Cassady was a son of the Cornelius
Cassady found
listed in the instate records of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in
1742?
Believe this Cornelius was a indentured servant in 1650 that was
sent to
Virginia.
Would love to hear from anyone who believes they descend from the
above Neal
and Peter.
