Not sure about Cortland County either. I know there is a
VanCortlandt Park in NYCity (in the Bronx.)
Don't have any info about Cassidy's in the area but Cortland County
was named
after Pierre Van Cortlandt, who was the first Lt. Gov of New York.
Pierre's
Grandfather and Great Uncle were prominent merchants and early
mayors of New
York City (Stephenus and Jacobus). Van Cortlandt Park is named
after Jacobus.
Another descendant of the Van Cortlandt's is John Jay, 1st Chief
Justice of the
United States and one of the "founding fathers".
