Hi Cassidy Researchers
I've posted most of this before but Janet says we have new members
so I'll post it again.
Are there any other Cassidys researching in the midwest? If so, send me
an e-mail. Maybe we
can help each other.
My Cassidys came from Ireland but, alas, I'm not sure what county.
Some US
Census reports indicate Dublin and some just list Ireland. There are
conflicting dates
as to when they came to the US. One census says they came in 1843 and
one says 1848.
All information that I can find suggests that they came directly to
Missouri and settled there
where they were boot and shoemakers. There is an old family story that
says Joseph lived
in New Orleans for a while and then went back to get his family. I have
found no proof either way.
The first record I have shows them in Lincoln County Missouri in
1850. My GGGrandfather, Joseph Cassidy, and his wife Jane Horman had
children, James, Thomas, Laura, Peter, Catherin and Ann. All were born
in Ireland. I have found record of Joseph's and Thomas' naturalization
in Lincoln
County Court Records.
My Great Grandfather Thomas Cassidy first married Mary Ann Turnbull
and had children, William Theodore, James Peter, Lucinda Jane, Sarah
Catherine and Casander. He moved to Texas County Missouri and after
Mary Ann's death, married Nancy Kivett and had children Mary Ann, Joseph
T., Robert C., Nancy Leora, John Alfred, Autilla and Henry Augusta.
My Grandfather James Peter Cassidy married Charlotte Temple McDaniel
and had children, Dulceny, Mary Annie, Orville Sebastian, Maggie May,
Tyre Martin, Sim Walter and Bessie. Charlotte died about 1901 and James
Peter never remarried.
My father Tyre Cassidy married Mazel Rosanna Highley and had 3
children, Orville Edwin, Jack Simmons, and myself .
I would like to know where in Ireland my Cassidy ancestors came from
so
I could research there further. Another piece of information that I
found is that
a John Charles Cassidy is buried in the same church cemetery as my
GGGrandfather Joseph and is about the same age which makes it a pretty
good
guess that he was related. I would like to know who he is.
Can anyone help me learn more about the McDaniel family of my
grandmother.
Charlotte Temple McDaniel. She died about 1901 shortly after bearing a
son who
also died. My father was only about 8 years of age when his mother died
and
wasn't able to remember much about her. He believed her mother's name
was
Poppywell. I have since found information that suggests it probably was
Popplewell. My dad believed his grandfather McDaniel's name was James
and
that he served as a lieutenant in the Union army during the civil war. I
have
found several James McDaniels in U.S. Army listings but none seem to fit.
I will be happy to share any information about any of my lines.
Jimmie Cassidy
