Hello Janet~~
It's been several years since you've heard from me. My PC crashed, my data got
scrambled & I had some family issues that kept me from continuing my research. But
things have more or less fallen back into place & I've regained some of my
interest now that I've come across two Cassidy cousins on
Ancestry.com.
To refresh your memory, I'm a great-great-grandson of William Cassidy (c1825-c1895)
& Margaret Bridget (or vice-versa) Carroll (c1835-c1905) of Drumanane, Devonish
Parish, from at least 1856-1911 from the data I've seen. William's first wife was
Jane(?) Hall, who I assume was of the Drumanane Halls, and their children were William
(c1849-1903, NY), Robert (c1852-1937, CA) & Jane Fogarty (c1854-1931, NY.) (Going by
this naming pattern alone, I assume that William (c1825-c1895) was the son of a previous
William. Robert might have been named after his maternal grandfather, a theoretical
Robert Hall, since another Robert Hall of roughly the same generation as Robert Cassidy is
living in Drumanae in the 1901 census.)
William (c1825-c1895) & Margaret Bridget Carroll (c1835-c1905)'s children were
Mary (1856-?), Catherine (1858-?), Margaret (1860-?), Morris/Maurice (1861-?), James
(1863-1927, NY), John, my great-grandfather (1868-1931, NY), Patrick (1869-?), Nicholas
(1871-?), Philip (1874-1914, NY), Margaret Jane (1878-?)(Both god-parents were Halls.)
You may recall that my Cassidys settled in Flushing, NY and were probably cousins of the
Jack/David Cassidy line judging by the extremely close proximity of their houses and the
similar naming-patterns. The first of this Jack/David Cassidy line to arrive in Flushing
was Patrick (c1820-c1870) and he named his first-born William (c1851-1901, NY). This
William (c1851-1901, NY) sported the name William F Cassidy in the Flushing directory,
most likely to differentiate himself from his neighbor & probable cousin William
Cassidy (c1849-1903, NY), my great-grandfather's brother. (Ironically perhaps,
William (c1849-1903, NY) & William F (c1851-1901, NY) are buried within 100 feet of
each other, which caused some confusion in the cemetary office.) This William F also
named his first-born William, as did his brother Patrick (c1852-c1932). Patrick
(c1852-c1932)'s son William was the father of Jack Cassidy.
Another Cassidy living by today's Main St. & Roosevelt Ave in Flushing Was Morris
Cassidy (c1830-c1890, NY). As with William Cassidy (c1825-c1895) & Patrick
(c1820-c1870, NY), Morris named his first-born son William. Also showing this Morris'
closeness to my family is the fact that when my great-grandmother died, my
great-grandfather John (1868-1931, NY) moved in with Morris' widow before his
re-marriage.
I'm sure this is confusing & long-winded, but I'm throwing it out there in the
hope of making some connection & re-gaining the data which I've lost. I remember
that someone (perhaps you, Janet) gave me my great-great-grandfather's death date,
c1895 & the name of one Oliver Cassidy (I think) who might have some info on my
family. Both of these notes I lost when my PC crashed.
Well, it's good to be back & I hope to hear from you soon.

I am interested in establishing links between all Cassidys from the
Fermanagh parishes of Devenish, Boho, Inishmacsaint , and possibly
Cleenish. If you have gotten your family back to Griffith's Valuation
in one of these parishes, and earlier (circa late 1700s--early 1800s)
please let me know. I suspect that if we could get back to the early
1800s or late 1700s with records, we'd see they are connected.
My own gang comes from near Derrygonnelly, probably from townland of
Drumgormly, and are probably descended from Brian or Francis
Cassidy . Related names include McCaffrey, Flanagan, and Love, but
must be many more related families.
