My first CASSIDY immigrant was Patrick CASSIDY. He came from near
Derrygonnelly, Co Fermanagh. Family story (so far no hard evidence) is that he
came twice. Once to Boston area, (durin early 1830s?) and then returned to
Ireland. Emigrated again, this time settling in Emmitsburg Md. . According to
his naturalization papers, he arrived at New York (but again, no proof found
yet) in Sept. 1842. Then moved to WashDC --here is where I have the first
documented proof of him, with baptisms of children and his appearance in 1850
census. He lived first in the city of Washington, and then moved to Georgetown
(which then was a separate city). He was Catholic and worked as sexton of
Trinity Church in Georgetown.
