Cassidys,
I knew there was a reason I was holding back my family info when we were all doing updates
lately. I didn't have much, but I have just this week added a suprising piece that may
ring a bell for one of you. Hope so!
I am Christine Cassidy Schutz born in Santa Barbara,California in 1950 but lived in
Hanford, California until 1969. (Now reside in WA.) Eugene Cassidy Jr., born in Hanford,
California in 1924 was my father. His father was Eugene Herbert Cassidy, Sr. born in
Windom, Texas, Feb. 24, 1889. Until now, the only other information I have on the Cassidy
line was the name of my Great grandfather, Frank Cassidy. I speculate that he was born
around 1870. According to a family story he was born or raised around Morristown, Tenn.
but was sent to Texas at a very early age. (For any who have a Tenn. Cassidy interest,
email me for a "second hand" description of the family house in Morristown from
the mid 1970's. No family names or dates however.)
THANK YOU INTERNET! Two days ago I was sent a small biograpical interview done of my
grandfather, Eugene Sr.in 1940. It was part of a book written about 40 people who were
considered some of the early notables of Hanford (Kings County) California.
Along with the news that by Eugene's account, his fathers name was Bert (his death
certificate says Frank) and mother's name Georgia Peoples Cassidy, came the following:
"Both sides of Mr. Cassidy's family have the distinction of going back to the
revolutionary war. Of particular interest was his Great Great Grandfather, Jeremiah Andrew
Cassidy who fought in the Revolutionary War and lived to the unbelievably great age of 127
years."
This of course offers no locations or dates and skips a few generations. However, if you
have any information regarding my 4th great grandfather, Jeremiah Andrew Cassidy, or have
heard any stories about a reeeeally old Cassidy during that period PLEASE let me know.
There is a possible connection to the Kentucky Cassidys. It seems after some schooling in
Dennison, Texas my grandfather, Eugene was sent to the Sue Bennett Memorial School in
London, Kentucky. Can't imagine why unless there was family in the area. He had
completed his education and was working for a business in Sulpher Springs, Texas by the
age of 14. Then on to Hanford in 1913 at the age of 24.
Apologies for the long version here. I'm excited and this is the first new news about
this family in years. As is so common, all my family has passed away without my ever
asking the right questions at the right time.
