Hi, Janet,
Yes, we hired the CHC a couple of years ago to search for Andrew Cassidys, Thomas
Cassidys, and Mary Cassidys. At the time, we did not know Mary's maiden name
(CONNELL), or that they were "native of Annagh". The CHC "searched their
extensive records" and came up with practically nothing to connect to. They found
only one baptism record with Andrew -father Judy-mother, & child-Biddy in 1840.(not
ours). They also "searched" records that we had searched ourselves thru the
FHC.
Since discovering the name CONNELL and "parish of Annagh", we've wondered if
we should try the Cavan Heritage Center again; but we keep asking ourselves: wouldn't
the names have come up anyway- Annagh or elsewhere- while searching for Andrew CASSIDY?
Also, Do you know why someone who we are 99.5% sure is living in Co. Cavan in 1861 would
not show up in any records the CHC searched?
How likely is it that generations of a family could exist in Cavan/Annagh without leaving
a trace? I know we must be missing something obvious. BTW, these Cassidys are Catholic,
with every baby born in NYC being baptized days after birth.
Another thing that's bothered us about the CHC search: On the CAVAN LIST, the
Anglo-Celt Newspaper Transcripts for the mid 1800's often turn up names like Andrew
Cassidy, Thomas Cassidy, Mr. Cassidy.... why were those names not turned up in the CHC
search?
One more question: :->
Does anyone have a reference for a genealogist/researcher in/ around Cavan for hire?
Thanks for listening! And for any ideas.
