Jim,
I have a accumulated a rather large tree on the Ohio Cass?dys. There were a
couple of Sussex County Nj families that settled in the Trumbull/Mahoning county
area. How far can you drive back in your ancestry to see if we have a common
link?

Rick, do you have anything on where in Ohio the Cassidys you have on record
landed? I have quite a bit of information on Ohio Cassidys back at that
time and I've tried in the past to link up the various clans. I haven't
been actively pursuing family history since my dad died 12 years ago and I
had to take over the family business, but I've tried to keep up to date with
what others were finding out.

Hello Robert,
Thanks for posting!
I have 14 John Cassidys in my records. Unfortunately, none of them have so
far traced to NYC at all, including your 1840's dates. Some went west, to
Ohio and and as far as California. A few lived and died in northern New
Jersey. But as odd as it sounds, I haven't traced any of the family to, or
through, NYC to date.
The couple that I have only DOB for, and no further history, don't have
dates that would put them in NYC in the 1840's.
I do have a Robert Cassidy who I know very little about. I think his father
was Eleazor Cassidy and I think there were several siblings, including
Andrew, Samuel, Amanda, Abram, William, James, Daniel, Ann, Harriet, and
David. I don't know about a spouse or possible children. His DOB is unknown,
but could have been early enough (in the 1820s based on possible siblings
estimated DOB) that he could have been your John's father / grandfather. But
that is a real stretch and only useful as a hypothesis for further
investigation.
This is not my direct Cassidy line so I haven't been very creative so far in
looking into it.
Let me know if this helps!
Rick

Hello,
I'm not sure the protocols for posting here, but here goes! I hope
this isn't too long.
Along with a couple of other family members I've discovered along the
way, I'm investigating the Cass?dy family or families who were in and
near Sussex County, NJ in the late 1700s and early 1800s. We have
wills and other records that place John Cassidy and his four sons,
John Jr., James, Patrick and William, in Sussex County around 1820.
There are other records that put a John Cassidy and a Patrick Cassidy
in Sussex county in the late 1700s and earlier 1800s.
We have evidence that some of the family migrated to Michigan, some to
Illionis, some to Kansas and there are links to the areas of New York
and Pennsylvania that adjoin Sussex County in the far northwest corner
of New Jersey.
The work, as I'm sure others have discovered, of following a person
through those time periods is hampered by the many spellings of the
name. We have records with Cassidy, Cassady, Cassida, and Cassedy that
we believe all refer to the same family line we're interested.
So the 'ask' is for any one with a John Cass?dy or a Patrick Cass?dy,
where the '?' represents any of the different spellings, to please
post or contact us via this board. We'd be happy to share the what we
know and what we think about Cass?dy in and from Sussex County, NJ.
Thanks and best regards,
Rick Mau
