The Ohio Cassidys I am most familiar with were in the Jackson County, Ohio
area in the 1830s with links back to Pennsylvania. The other large group of
Cassidys I have information on are in...uhhh...Washington County, right next
door to Jackson at about the same time. The earliest documented Cassidy I
am related to is Samuel Irwin Casady, born in Jackson County, Ohio in 1848.
The unproven ancestry is Andrew Cassidy, born in Ireland in 1800 and died in
Jackson County in 1866. I know of other descendants of Andrew and where
some of the other family members ended up, but I'm uncertain as to the other
family relationships with Andrew other than his brother-Ira, I believe.
Sorry, I have to quote most of this stuff from memory at the moment, the
records are stored away and I don't have the digital records on hand here at
work.
Thanks for the replies!
Jim

Hello Jim,
As Don mentions in his reply, the Trumbull/Mahoning area of Ohio is the
primary part of the state. Lordstown is another area name. Some names are
James N Cassidy, Granville, and John N.
Another possible link is southern Ohio along the Ohio River. There is a tale
of a John and Patrick Cassidy who went to that area from Sussex County, NJ
and ran boats along the river. One of them is said to have died on the
river. The other may have had family that wound up in Lancaster, PA.
Does any of that help?
Rick

Jim,
I have a accumulated a rather large tree on the Ohio Cass?dys. There
were a couple of Sussex County Nj families that settled in the
Trumbull/Mahoning county area. How far can you drive back in your
ancestry to see if we have a common link?

Rick, do you have anything on where in Ohio the Cassidys you have on
record landed? I have quite a bit of information on Ohio Cassidys
back at that time and I've tried in the past to link up the various
clans. I haven't been actively pursuing family history since my dad
died 12 years ago and I had to take over the family business, but I've
tried to keep up to date with what others were finding out.

Hello Robert,
Thanks for posting!
I have 14 John Cassidys in my records. Unfortunately, none of them
have so far traced to NYC at all, including your 1840's dates. Some
went west, to Ohio and and as far as California. A few lived and died
in northern New Jersey. But as odd as it sounds, I haven't traced any
of the family to, or through, NYC to date.
The couple that I have only DOB for, and no further history, don't
have dates that would put them in NYC in the 1840's.
I do have a Robert Cassidy who I know very little about. I think his
father was Eleazor Cassidy and I think there were several siblings,
including Andrew, Samuel, Amanda, Abram, William, James, Daniel, Ann,
Harriet, and David. I don't know about a spouse or possible children.
His DOB is unknown, but could have been early enough (in the 1820s
based on possible siblings estimated DOB) that he could have been your
John's father / grandfather.
But
that is a real stretch and only useful as a hypothesis for further
investigation.
This is not my direct Cassidy line so I haven't been very creative so
far in looking into it.
Let me know if this helps!
Rick
