I have information on Cassidys from Jackson County Ohio-most arrived from
Pennsylvania in the 1830s and moved on to the St. Louis area, Iowa and
(possibly) Northern Missouri. The St. Louis Cassidy descendants mostly kept
the spelling, the Iowa and Northern Missouri descendants adopted the Casady
spelling.
The St. Louis Cassidys out of Jackson County were descendants of Andrew
Cassidy, born 1800 and died 1866. I believe he was a brother to Asa R.
Cassidy and their mother's name was Ruth, but I have no documentation of
that being fact. The Iowa Casadys out of Jackson County are connected to
Andrew Cassidy in some way but the documentation of exactly how is missing.
Other Cassidys from Ohio include a bunch from Washington County that adopted
the spelling of Cassady and today are in Idaho, spelling their name Casady.
I believe there was also another branch of Cassidys that were out in
Virginia in the 18th century, then came through Pennsylvania and Ohio to
Iowa, where they also adopted the Casady spelling...seen Cassady from time
to time too. That is the Simon Casady branch, which achieved some
prominence in Iowa and Oklahoma, and now mostly resides on the west coast.
LMK if any of this information appears useful to you at all and I will share
whatever details I can.
Jim Casady
