My great grandmother was Rhoda Cassidy, born ca. 1861 in Richland County,
Ohio. Her father, Mark A. Cassidy immigrated from Ireland at age 26,
(laborer)with a sister? Bridget (23, servant) on the ship Patrick Henry,
which sailed from Liverpool and arrived in New York City on 24 JUL 1850 .
In the 1870 census Mark and family were in Lorain Co., OH. He was in the
civil war with a cavalry outfit out of West Virginia. In 1880 - 1894 he
ended up in Grand Rapids, MI., as a blacksmith. In 1900 he was back down in
Ohio, in Sandusky, living with an Aunt Mary Costigan. There were a bunch
of other Cassidys in the area in Sandusky that I think were related to him
and Mary, named Edward, Michael, Patrick, Miles, Robert. I think this bunch
is from Kilagthee,Donegal Co., Ireland and so maybe that is where my Mark
originated.
Mark married an Irish woman named Margaret in the U.S., ca. 1859.
Margaret was born ca. 1835. Rhoda's siblings were named: Thomas, born
1859; Lucy, born 1860, and Robert, born 1864.
Mark was living next door to a Robert Cassidy in 1860 in Richland
County, Ohio. Robert was born 1824 in Ireland (probably Mark's
brother.
I would dearly love to find where in Ireland my Mark Cassidy originated, and
would greatly appreciate any information regarding this mystery.
