Hi everyone,
I thought I would share a bit about my immigrant ancestor, Patrick CASSIDY.
Perhaps someone will see a link.
Patrick Cassidy was born about 1804 near Derrygonnelly, a small village in
Co. Fermanagh, Ireland. His father was probably (not proven yet) Francis
Cassidy. Somewhere around 1836 or so he married Mary McCaffrey. They had 4
children in Ireland, then emigrated to the US ad had 5 more here. They
settled first in Emmitsburg, Md, where Patrick may have worked as a
handyman/caretaker at St;Mary's or St. Joseph's college. There is a
possibility (yet unproven) that Mary was related to th Rev McCaffrey who was
then college president.
Soon however, they moved to WashDC, where Patrick became the sexton of Holy
Trinity parish in Georgetown.
There children were:
Mary b 1837?, married Michael ASHE
Peter b 1838 married, died in his early 40s
Charles I b 1839 m ? was in Civil War
Patrick Francis b Sept 1841 m Annie SHIELDS
Ann Virginia b 1843
Catherine b 1846 died young
Mary Catherine ? died young
Elizabeth b July 5, 1850
Edward Francis b 1854 m Mary MURRAY
I have been able to trace the families of most of these children and can give
further info if needed.
I have also done research on the family in Ireland, and have traced many
Cassidys in the area, some of whom are very likely related.
I will provide info on other Cassidys I have come across in researching at a
later time.
Hope this connects with someone.
Janet
