Publishing seems to have been a popular occupation in the last century
for the sons of Irish immigrants.
John Cassiday (1800-1886) was the son of Irish immigrant, David Cassiday
(1767-1845). According to a family genealogy book, John founded the
first newspaper in Poweshiek County, Iowa, in 1856. It was called The
Montezuma Republican. There is a photo of John and some of his children
at

It is the second photo on the page, so takes a while to load.
His son, Samuel Cassiday (1830-1904) was the owner of the Petaluma Argus
in California. According to the obituary Samuel published upon his
father's death, John was politically vocal, opposed slavery and desired
peace.
My brick wall is linking John's father, David, with the 2 brothers he is
said to have sailed from Londonderry with in 1788.
