Janet and all you Cassidys out there!
I have been mapping the movement of my Cassidy family in and around
the time
of the mid 1800's. I've put flags on the map of marriages, baptisms and
My farthest back Cassidy is Francis who married Elizabeth McCloskey. I can
find records of some of their children and have placed the earliest events in
their marriage (ie, births and baptisms) in Ervey, Mallabouy, Slaughtmanus
and Listress in Derry. The youngest child and the 1901 census show they
settled in Dungullion. Now taking a step further backward, I find Griffith's
Valuation shows a John Cassidy in Gortinreid and a John McCloskey in
Gortnessy. ( Francis and Elizabeth's first child was named JOHN). The second
child was named Sarah, then Mary, who was born in Slaughtmanus. Issac, Annie
and Elizabeth Jane were born and baptised in Mallobouy. Now the assumption I
am making is that the two Johns, Cassidy and McCloskey were Francis and
Elizabeth's fathers. They lived less than a mile and a half from each other,
which would have not been too far a distance for courting!!
Let me know what you think?!!!
