My Great, Great grandfather was Thomas Cassidy (also spelled Cassaday,
Cassady, Kassaday, Kassady) born in Ireland and married Anna Jane
(unknown). She also seems to have been born in IRE (1910 census entry
for their daughter listed both parents as IRE-ENG.).
It is believed that they married before 1856, not sure where they
married. Thomas died in 1889. Anna Jane died 6 Jan 1899, both in Ohio.
Most likely Brecksville, Cuyahoga, OH. Anna Jane is buried in Calvary
Cemetery in Cleveland.
Their oldest daughter was born in 1856. Her name was Mary. She married
Edward Finn 2 Nov 1873. She died in 1895.
The second daughter, Catherine was born in 1858. She married Michael
Finn on 15 Feb 1881. (Michael is the brother of Edward Finn married to
Catherine's sister Mary.) They had a little girl, Theresa in 1882. She
died while a toddler, probably before age 2. She somehow managed to walk
up to a boiling laundry cauldron and was scalded to death in 1883.
Catherine had a second child, my grandfather Vincent P. Finn on 2 Jun
1883. Catherine was never quite well after the loss of her daughter.
There are confusing rumors that say she may have died while birthing a
little girl. This is disputed by some of the family researchers.
Catherine was dead by about 1886. Buried in St. John's Cemetery in
Cleveland; later reburied in Calvary. By 1886 Michael Finn and family
had left Brecksville, Cuyahoga, OH and moved to Cleveland, Cuyahoga, OH.
In the vicinity of Woodland Cemetery.
After the death of Catherine, her husband Michael was left with an
infant son to raise. Catherine's younger sister Anna Cassidy stayed with
Michael to raise the child. They eventually married and had six sons.
Anna was born in Ohio in Mar 1861. They married bef Mar 1890. Michael
Finn died by 1907, leaving Anna with 6 sons ages 3-17. Fourteen years
later Anna Cassidy Finn's daughter-in-law (Christine Halderbrand Finn)
died leaving 4 children aged 2 mos to 9 years of age. Anna at age 50
found herself raising her grandchildren. Anna died in 1942.
Thomas Cassidy and Anna Jane had a son named James born in 1866 that
died in 1949. He was married to a Catherine Conlan. I don't know if they
had any children, but I don't think so. Thomas and Anna Jane also had a
little girl Agnes born in 1875 and died the same year.
I am trying to find out Anna Jane's maiden name. Where Thomas Cassidy is
buried. They owned land in Brecksville next to John and Mary Finn, the
in-laws of the three oldest Cassidy girls (Margaret, Catherine, and
Anna). The land is now part of the Cleveland MetroParks (Brecksville
Reservation) System. Parkview Ave bordering the park ran through or by
the property. Back in the 1880's or so Parkview was called Whiskey Lane
(guess why!)
Guess that is all for now.
