There was a guy named Tucker in St. Louis who contacted me some years ago
and had a lot of information on St. Louis Cassidys-his family was related to
the Andrew Cassidy family of Jackson County, Ohio. I recall that his middle
name was LeRoy and his first name started with 'R'. Robert maybe. Sorry,
though, that is all the immediate "help" I can give you, which is basically
little to none.
Jim

ubject: Re: [CASSIDY] CASSIDY Digest, Vol 5, Issue 32
inda, I'm not familiar with Cooper Cassidy, my study of the Cassidy family
arted with my spelling of the name and went back from there, trying to
tablish the connections with other spellings. Iowa in the 19th Century s a
very common place to see the spelling of Casady and that is where my mily
spelling originated; the Simon Casady family got their way of elling the
name in Iowa too. Virtually everyone in the country with the sady variation
is related to either the Simon Casady family or mine and nt through Iowa at
one time or another; there is a branch of the family elled Casady in
Northern Missouri that I haven't been able to link rectly to Simon though.
y branch of the Cassidy family came out of Jackson County, Ohio in 1851 and
believe is linked to Andrew Cassidy, born in Ireland in 1800, but I ven't
been able to document the relationship directly; he moved west from
nnsylvania to Ohio about 1830. Other descendants of Andrew moved to St.
uis and kept the Cassidy spelling, but I'm not sure how they dispersed om
there.
he Simon Casady family came to Iowa sometime in the years between 1820? and
40 from Connersville, Indiana and is found there with the Cassidy elling. As
the Simon Casady family dispersed from Iowa, most kept the sady spelling but
there are some variations found in Iowa, most rticularly Cassady as the
family moved south and west in the state. We so see several individual
families spelling their name Cassidy, that seems be more common in the
northern part of Iowa and those families seem to be re connected with the
New York and Canadian branches.
lot of what I have gleaned has been from records and stories other family
mbers have sent me and I do not know how much of it is documented and how ch
is casual, undocumented study. I have been able to shore up a lot of e
information I have via census and other records, but I cannot, for ample,
document to Genealogical standards that Simon Casady of Des Moines, wa was
indeed Simon Cassidy of Connersville, Indiana.
lease do share what you know about your Cassidy's travels and moves. I uld
very much like to know where they came from in Ohio and when they ved to
Iowa, as well as where they located there. The move back to
io/Pennsylvania, when and where might provide additional clues. I'm not
all sure when I might be able to get back into my records and start ying to
match up branches and names again, but I have saved every email ve received
about the Cassidy family over the last 12 years so there is a t of
information in that which could help.

Tribalpages.com to track my ogress
