There was a guy named Tucker in St. Louis who contacted me some years ago
nd had a lot of information on St. Louis Cassidys-his family was related to
he Andrew Cassidy family of Jackson County, Ohio. I recall that his middle
ame was LeRoy and his first name started with 'R'. Robert maybe. Sorry,
hough, that is all the immediate "help" I can give you, which is basically
ittle to none.

bject: Re: [CASSIDY] CASSIDY Digest, Vol 5, Issue 32
inda, I'm not familiar with Cooper Cassidy, my study of the Cassidy family
rted with my spelling of the name and went back from there, trying to
ablish the connections with other spellings. Iowa in the 19th Century s a
ery common place to see the spelling of Casady and that is where my mily
pelling originated; the Simon Casady family got their way of elling the
ame in Iowa too. Virtually everyone in the country with the sady variation
s related to either the Simon Casady family or mine and nt through Iowa at
ne time or another; there is a branch of the family elled Casady in
orthern Missouri that I haven't been able to link rectly to Simon though.
branch of the Cassidy family came out of Jackson County, Ohio in 1851 and
elieve is linked to Andrew Cassidy, born in Ireland in 1800, but I ven't
een able to document the relationship directly; he moved west from
nsylvania to Ohio about 1830. Other descendants of Andrew moved to St.
is and kept the Cassidy spelling, but I'm not sure how they dispersed om
here.
e Simon Casady family came to Iowa sometime in the years between 1820? and
0 from Connersville, Indiana and is found there with the Cassidy elling. As
he Simon Casady family dispersed from Iowa, most kept the sady spelling but
here are some variations found in Iowa, most rticularly Cassady as the
amily moved south and west in the state. We so see several individual
amilies spelling their name Cassidy, that seems be more common in the
orthern part of Iowa and those families seem to be re connected with the
ew York and Canadian branches.
lot of what I have gleaned has been from records and stories other family
bers have sent me and I do not know how much of it is documented and how ch
s casual, undocumented study. I have been able to shore up a lot of e
nformation I have via census and other records, but I cannot, for ample,
ocument to Genealogical standards that Simon Casady of Des Moines, wa was
ndeed Simon Cassidy of Connersville, Indiana.
ease do share what you know about your Cassidy's travels and moves. I uld
ery much like to know where they came from in Ohio and when they ved to
owa, as well as where they located there. The move back to
o/Pennsylvania, when and where might provide additional clues. I'm not
ll sure when I might be able to get back into my records and start ying to
atch up branches and names again, but I have saved every email ve received
bout the Cassidy family over the last 12 years so there is a t of
nformation in that which could help.
