I don't think we have definitive proof (and it is possible we never
will) of where Abraham Casada was born, or who his parents were. I
know it was proven that he (or at least some of his grown sons) was in
North Carolina prior to moving to KY. One son was said to have been
born in the State of Franklin--a state that existed for a very short
time in out nation's history --the territory is now part of NC. They
owned land in Buncombe County of NC, though they certainly could have
been in VA prior to that. Abraham might even be our immigrant
ancestor, however I think it is more probable that it was his father
that came over with the huge wave of the Ulster Irish immigration in
1720's or 30's. Deplorable economic conditions in Northern Ireland
forced many, many Ulster Irish to migrate the America. Typically they
first landed in the PA area, then made their way south through VA and
finally into the Carolinas and KY and TN. Our ancestors seem to
follow this very typical pattern.
As for the name--Casada, Cassidy, Casaday etc Remember up until the
1800's there was no definitive way to spell names or even words.
Spelling simply wasn't considered important. Individuals as educated
as Thomas Jefferson might spell the same word several different ways
in a document and no one batted a eye. People (those that could read
and write) spelled phonetically. We had the stories in our family too
about brothers who changed the spelling of their name after falling
out over a women...but I think it true answer is far less romantic.
Casaday, Cassidy, Cassity, Casaday...we all belong to the same clan
and share a common ancestry.
