Hi all:
We haven't done this in ages--why not post your farthest back
Cassidy, or the Cassidy who emigrated to the US or Canada, and maybe

Just be brief--if someone thinks they connect they can ask for more.
Mine is
Patrick Cassidy b about 1804, near Derrygonnelly, in Co. Fermanagh,
Ireland.
Married Mary McCaffrey and they emigrated to the US about 1842,
settling in Washington DC.
They had 8 children:
Mary
Peter
Charles I.
Patrick Francis b 1841 (last of family born in ireland)
Mary Catherine
Ann Virginia
Elizabeth
Edward Francis
Patrick Francis moved to Hoboken, NJ. The rest stayed in the DC area
for a couple of generations.

I am looking for the parents of Washington B. Casiday born 1812 in either
Augusta or Rockingham counties.
List his father from Ireland, his mother from Germany. He married twice in
Va, Elizabeth Ann Andrew and Elizabeth Ann Sandy. He served in the Civil War
under the confederacy. After the war he moved most of his family to Allen
Cnty, Ohio. He died there in 1884. He had 10 children by his 2 wives. He only
had 2 sons, neither of which had any sons. Washington is seen in the Civil war
records as Washington, and William.

A Chairde, Friends: we have been long trying to track down where these
Cassidys came from before they boarded the Assyria, and sailed as the song goes:
"trasna na dtonnta" (across the waves), and finally settled along the East
River docks of Greenpoint, Brooklyn. I am off to Donegal and Derry this summer.
Any leads on possible parishes, townlands, or hunches... would be
appreciated. My father was an orphan, so we know very little. Go raibh maith agaibh,

Ireland. He married Ellen JONES, born 9 March 1828 in Ireland.
Patrick emigrated to Canada prior to December 1846, when his first known
child, Bridget, was born in Cobourg, Northumberland Co, Ontario, Canada. I have
records of 14 children of this marriage. The second of these children was my
g-grandmother Elleanor Cassidy. She was born 19 Nov 1848 in Cobourg. In 1877
she married my g-grandfather John James GORMLY.

Marilyn,
Have you looked for Bridget or Brigid? Delia was often used as a nickname for
Bridget. You may have already tried this, but I just thought I would offer it.

Hi All
This is my first post on the rootsweb Caddidy list.
I have only one Cassidy family tie in my line and have
been unsuccessful in expanding it. Any new information
would be much appreciated. I will list my info below.
My Grandmother
Katherine (Katie) F Cassidy b-26 May 1859 in OH
d-15 Jun 1929 in Decatur AL. Katherine married
George D Thornhill on 25 Sep 1877 in Green Co, OH.
Katherine's Father was Charles Cassidy (1825-1895)
and mother was Teresa Josephine Duffey.

. .
Yes, they are connected to Jack Cassidy.
Kelliher? Hmmn. I have Kellihers, also. I must look it up. I am not
sure they were directly related to my Cassidys, probably someone's in-
law. These Kellihers were in the Washington, DC area, I think.

The book sounds good, Dennis. Did your William settle on Long Island
by any chance? I know of some Cassidys there who worked for the
railroad for several generations. I was able to help someone in that
line make the connection to Ireland.

Hi All,
Our earliest Cassidy was William, who got here at the age of 14(?) just in
time for the Civil War, which he survived. Then he became a fireman with the
NYFD in the very early years.
Read all about it here: http://dennisjensen.us/CASSIDY/cassw.htm
Incidentally, I just finished reading Paradise Alley, by Kevin Martin, a
fascinating account of the Draft Riots that includes accounts of the Great
Hunger, Civil War Battles and how the fire brigades worked in New York City,
among other interesting views of the period. I recommend it for deep
background about the Irish in America and blacks in New York City.

Dot, There's a coincidence. My great-grandfather Patrick Francis
Cassidy's brother Charles died in that same Old Soldiers Home in
Wash. DC. ! The two of them were in the Civil War together; I know
Charles was in one of the early battles, in Missouri.

Looking for Mary Cassidy/Cassada born 1788 PA (probably eastern side)
All we know about her father is he was a captain in George Washington's
Army. Mary married John Frazier and they settled in Holmes Co, OH (John
Frazier was the son Rev. Henry Frasher/Frazier and Phoebe Randolph)

Linda,
You probably did this, but did you check the 1880 census? It says
your Joseph Cassidy's father was born in "Va. O." Was/is there a
Virginia in Ohio? Most answers to this question give state only.
His wife's father was also born there, too.

Still looking for family of William Cassidy born in 1796 in Georgia, married
Amais Davis in Harris Co. Georgia, moved ca 1830 to Tallapoosa Co. AL.
Cannot find any record of William before 1830 census
In the later census reports, he always says he was born in Georgia and that
his parents were born in Georgia. Have never found him connected to any
Cassidy family before 1840. when he is shown with his sons.
Any help will be appreciated.

Do any of you have the Sprague surname in your family lines? I do, and accordingly, I sought out that line as well. Why do I bring this up on a Cassidy chat? Here is why...
They have a on-line database, one that people of that line can add info to and be listed as a resource. I know you guys are all sending the lines back and forth, but truthfully, if there was a way we could put together something even remotely similar to that dB we may find it very valuable. If you look at the Sprague Project, you'll see it is quite extensive...I do not feel we could go that crazy, especially on the start-up, but if a small group of us worked together to put something together similar to that and allowed others to input, I think we all would find links we never knew existed.
I know for my line, it is a constant on-going task--and headache--and I've yet to get farther back than my great grandparents (1920s). Very annoying! Especially when I've found my mother's side back into the BCs. I have a database I use to keep track of family names (solely grandparents, great grandparents, etc--no cousins/aunts/uncles/etc), and I am nearing 2,000 names. For my Dad's side (Cassidy), I have a mere 10 or so (this includes my parents). Pretty sad.
Anyway, I'd love to hear ya'lls thoughts on this topic.
As a footnote, there was a Cassidy who passed away some time last year. He was living in (and born in, I believe) St Louis--a coworker sent the article to me thinking he may be related. He was not. Though I do not recall his name, I do know it was some time during 2006.
