Cheers, all...
I'd be grateful for any info on the Cassidy family from the Hill-Of-Downs area, County Meath.
There is a record in Longwood, County Meath, of the marriage of my great-grandparents -- Michael Cassidy and Margaret Hinds -- in 1860, and a record of the birth of their first son, Christopher, my grandfather, in 1861. Another son, Thomas, was also born in Ireland c. 1864, but have been unable to find any record of it.
Michael and family emigrated c. 1868 to settle in Kingston, NY, where they had two girls -- Mary and Anne. Except for Thomas, I know most of the family history since then. After a seven-year search, I managed to track down the descendants of both Mary and Anne, but none of them remembered anything about Thomas. I'm still looking for him. The 1880 census lists the family under the misspelled name of "Cassidey"
Michael died in Kingston in 1898, and his death certificate lists his parents as John and Ann Cassidy, presumably from Hill-Of-Downs or Longwood. I've been to Hill-Of-Downs in search of any information, but no one had ever heard of the names of Cassidy or Hinds. I'm up against a very thick brick wall, and would be eternally grateful if somebody on the list might pass along any kind of a snippet of info to put be on a fresh start. Muchos gracias!

Would like to take this line back to Ireland.
Neal Cassaty/Cassady, later sons spelled it Cassaday. Neal settled on land in the Buffalo Creek of North Fork of James River in Augusta Co. Virginia, ca1750s. Land later in Rockbridge County when it became a county. What records found, no wife mentioned. Did have sons;
John, age was given as 16, orphan of Neil Casaty who died in 1767.
Peter was listed as orphan of Neil in 1768 when he was bound to Samuel Wallace to learn trade of carpenter.
Peter is my direct line: He married Mary McClung in 1781. In the McClung genealogy it is given that they had 12 children; and to date I have found only 8. Have much information on this line. Peter served in the Rev. War from 1777 and mustered out in 1783. He is listed on the roll of Valley Forge in 1778.
James, is mentioned in number of deeds with brother, Peter, in Rockbridge Co. VA.
James married Elizabeth McClung in 1782, Rockbridge County, VA.
Patrick, born ca 1758, no information on him.

Gee, I'm pretty good at searching for ancestors but not for contemporary
people. I'm sorry. All I can think of to suggest is that you try hiring a
private investigator. You could write to the Social Security department and
see if he is still living.
Sorry I can't be more help. I sent your message to the whole list--maybe
someone else can suggest something.

Hi,
yes, I am stuck. I have been searching for my father, Michael James
Cassidy, born 08.08.1942, computer scientist, from Texas, USA, for
many years.
Maybe I am not very good at this, but I have not found any more
information on him, and have given up. Any suggestions?

Hi all,
My Alice L. (MURRAY) Cassidy was born in NYC about 1878 daughter of Charles.
MURRAY and Ann(e) (KEARNUS) or (KEARNS) Murray. Brother John F. Murray was
born either 1872 or 1875.
Do not know who she married but she was living at John F. Murray home in
1910 NY, NY Census at 1160 Hoe Avenue. in the Bronx ED 1, page 116 B.
Anyone know of this Cassidy?
Thank you,

Hi all:
As long as we are on the subject of Australia and convicts, I will ask
again. I am looking for the descendants of 3 brothers named Cassidy,
Philip, Thomas, and Edward, sons of Stephen Cassidy of Upper Gortgall in
Boho. They were convicted in 1831 at the Enniskillen Assize of killing
their landlord's horse, and were transported in Australia. One of them,
Edward, supposedly escaped and returned to Fermanagh. according to one
story, he came back for his sweetheart, and they escaped to america. The
others eventually married in Australia and had descendants. I'm not related
to these Cassidys, but since I have traced a lot about the story both in
Fermanagh and australia, I'd LOVE to be able to put the Oz branch together
with the US branch! It would make a great story,
Any Cassidys in the US have a tale in their family that sounds anything like
that one? I'd love to hear from you!
