Hi,
I'm new to the list. I don't have much to go on, but I am hoping someone out
there sees a connection to their research.
I have an 'Unknown' CASSIDY born in Buncombe County, NC, married to Robert
ROBERTS born in Rosman, Transylvania County, NC (both probably born around
1830 or so).
They had one daughter that I know of, Mary Manerva (Molly Mae) ROBERTS
born May 25, 1850 in Buncombe County, NC died October 30, 1914 in
Cherryfield, Transylvania County, NC.
Thanks for any help,
Wayne

Looking for info on ANN CASSIDY - or perhaps O'CASSIDY - born in Ireland about 1815. I've assumed that she was from County Derry because her husband, Richard McCANN, was definitely born there. They married in Ireland and their son HUGH was born there (about 1833) before emigrating to upstate New York between 1833 - 1839. There is a daughter Sarah Jane or Sarah Anna with an unknown birthdate who may also have been born in Ireland. All other children (John "Jack" 1839; Michael c 1840; Daniel 1841; James 1843; Isabel 1846; Patrick 1849; Joseph 1850; Anna c 1856) were born in New York State.
Also looking for JOHN CASSIDY, born c 1827 in Ireland. In 1855, Ann Cassidy McCann's two oldest sons were living with John, so there was probably a family connection. John emigrated through Canada where he married his Canadian-born wife Nancy. Their daughter Nancy was born about 1854 in New York's Essex County.
I have a lot of information on Ann's descendants, but none about her antecedents. I'll share if you will! Doris Sheehan at sheehan(a)willex.com
Listers,
While I am awaiting a connection, I will tell you about my gr grandfather,
James Buchanan Cassady. To Recap: b. 1856 in Minn.?, m.1 1878, to Mary
Elizabeth Randall who died early leaving him with two little girls to raise:
Mary Emily (my grandmother) and Minnie.
I have a copy of a nice picture of James B. Cassady. The picture says it was
taken by W.J. Koon in Plattesmouth, Neb. James looks very handsome with
vest, tie (crevatte?) coat and pinstriped pants. He is wearing a 5-pointed
star badge because he is a railroad detective. My father wrote about James:
According to family stories, they must have moved to several places
throughout that part of the West (Nebraska, Montana, the Dakotas). His wife
and small children had to hide from the Indians in the Dakotas...(After Mary
Elizabeth died of pneumonia) James and his little daughters continued to move
whereever his detective work took him...It is believed (after the daughters
were grown and married) he married again in Kansas City, Kansas, where he
died in a snowstorm, Jan. 29, 1911.
James parents were Richard Cassady and Mary Wood(s). His sibblings were
Etta, Julia, Joan, William, Edith, Mary, Fancis (Frank) and Hattie.
Thanks again, for help!

Been a subscriber for about an hour so I better send out my query...Looking

1850 Kackson Co. Census. Mary as the 23 yr old wife of my ggggrandfather,
Jacob Nichols, and Henry as a Farmer and Adelia as his wife. Any assistance
at all will be greatly appreciated.

Morning all!
John CASSIDY married Mary DAVIS about 1867 in Durham County England.
They were both from Ireland but both families were working the coal
mines in England. John and Mary had two children, Bernard (Barney) and
Catherine in England then immigrated to Fayette County Pennsylvania
about 1871. They then had 11 more children, Esther, Molly, John, James,
Thomas, Edward, Helen Cecelia (my Grandmother) Frank, Elizabeth, William
and Annie. Again, they worked in the coal mines. According to the
census, there appear to have been other CASSIDY families in the same
area. Are they relatives? Mary's parents, Abraham & Esther also
immigrated with at least two sons, Thomas DAVIS and Sylvester DAVIS.
Does anyone know anything about these Pennsylvania CASSIDYs? DAVISs?
Thanks!

Fellow or Fellowess researchers,
I have come across a copy of a book titled, Newburgh, Her Institutions,
Industries & Leading Citizens published in 1891 by Ritchie & Hull,
Proprietors of the Newburgh Journal. The information was compiled by John
Nutt. On the front cover it says, by G.E. Youmans.
There are two CASSEDY bios included in the book, Hon. Abram S. Cassedy and
his son W.F. Cassedy. The grandfather, Archibald Cassedy and his son
Archibald are also mentioned. These biographies follow. I have no further
information on the Cassedys mentioned in the bios. To my knowledge they are
not part of my line of Cassidy's from KY>TN>TX>CA.
If you find that Abram or W.F are definitely in your line, let me know and I
will be happy to copy their photos for you. Please know that the book is very
old and the binding is in fragile condition so it will not survive many copy
machine visits.
Hon. Abram S. Cassedy is the grandson of Archibald Cassedy, who emigrated
from the north of Ireland about the time of the Revolution, and became one of
the pioneer settlers of Rockland County, in this State. He was imbued with
the indomitable industry and moral principles characteristic of the
Scotch-Irish, and became a successful and respected member of the community.
His son Archibald engaged in mercantile and agricultural pursuits, and
married Lydia Gurnee, daughter of Judge Gurnee, of Rockland County, who was
of French descent. They lived at Ramapo, where Abram S. was born November 29,
1833.
He received an academical education, graduating in his twentieth year from
the State Normal School. He studied law with Judge William F. Fraser, at
Clarkstown, N.Y., and with Wilkin & Gott, at Goshen, N.Y, and was admitted to
practice in 1857. Dr. Charles Drake was then County Clerk, and Mr. Cassedy
was by him appointed Deputy County Clerk, and filled the position for two
years. Then for the next four years he was clerk of the Board of Supervisors
of Orange County, which met annually at Goshen. Meanwhile, in 1859, he moved
to this City and entered upon the practice of his profession. In 1862 he was
elected District Attorney of the County on the Democratic ticket, and served
three years. In 1869 he formed a partnership with Charles F. Brown, son of
Hon. John W. Brown. The firm of Cassedy & Brown acquired a large clientage.
The partnership continued till Mr. Brown became Judge of the Supreme Court.
Since 1886 he has been in partnership with his son W.F. Cassedy, under the
name of A.S. & W. F. Cassedy. In 1874 Mr. Cassedy commenced a term in the
Board of Education, and served one year as it's President; he declined the
nomination for a second term. In 1875-78 he was Corporation Counsel.
In 1880 he was nominated by acclamation by his party for Mayor, and was
elected by a large majority. During his term the Quassaick Creek bridge was
built, the West Shore Railroad was building, and the first steps were taken
to perfect arrangements for the Centennial celebration. He has been urged to
accept nominations for both the Legislature and Congress, but has hitherto
declined. Mr. Cassedy has been a Director and the attorney of the Quassaick
National Bank for over sixteen years. He has been and still is the owner of
considerable real estate in Newburgh and St. Paul. In conjunction with E.T.
Skidmore he bought the A.J. Downing property of ex-Mayor Carson in 1889, and
on a portion of this he has erected recently a handsome residence for
himself. Cassedy & Brown represented in part the Erie Railroad in this
County, and they were attorneys at Newburgh for the North River Construction
company, which built the West Shore Railroad. They paid out about $700,000.00
for the Company in procuring the right of way through the City and immediate
vicinity. He was local attorney for the West Shore, and afterward for the
Receivers. In October, 1885, he was appointed by the Court, Referee in the
matter of the foreclosure sale of the West Shore Railroad, and in November of
that year sold the road at that Newburgh Court house for $22,000,000.00, and
distributed the proceeds among the creditors. It is worthy of mention that in
making this distribution he issued one check for $1,068,000.00 and three
others for more than half a million dollars each. Since then he has
represented the New York Central and Hudson River Company Railroad in Orange
County. Mr. Cassedy is an able lawyer, painstaking and conscientious in all
his acts, and has won in a marked degree the confidence of the community.
He married Margaret J., daughter of Dr. Charles Drake, of Newburgh in 1861.
His younger son, Frank H., is practicing law in Newburgh on his own account.
W. F. Cassedy was born October 4, 1862. In 1880, after graduating from the
Newburgh Academy, he entered Cornell University, from which he was graduated
in June, 1884. Mr. Cassedy then entered the law office of his father, Hon.
A.S. Cassedy, and in 1886 was admitted to the bar. In 1887 he enter into
partnership with his father in the law firm of A.S. & W.F. Cassedy. He was
married in January, 1888 to Miss Townsend, daughter of James A. Townsend, of
Newburgh.

Henry S. Cassidy born about 1816 in Penn. married Eliza J. Rizer in Logan
Co., Ky. This marriage occurred 3 Jul 1843. The family is in the 1850 Logan
co., Ky census with children Sarah M. (b. about 1847) and Milburn Cassidy
(b. about 1849.) How was Eliza Rizer related to the other Rizer families of
Logan Co.? Would like more information on these individuals.
Thank you, Kathleen Rizer
I am searching for further connections to my gggrandmother Susan CASSADY of
Henry Co. Indiana. I found an 1850 Henry county census record where she is
listed with Elizabeth CASSADY 67 b. NC; Richard CASSADY 27 b. OH and his
wife Susan 24 b. OH; Wesley 17 b. OH; Mary 17 b. OH and Susan 15 b. IN.
Susan CASSADY married Thomas J. Williams July 4, 1852 in Henry Co. On the
marriage license her uncle Hezekiah Snider vouched for her age. Hezekiah
was married to Eleanor CASSADY Mar 23, 1835 in Preble Co. OH. Eleanor was
the daughter of Weir CASSADY and Elizabeth WISHON according to the 1884
History of Henry County bio of her son Zachariah SNIDER.
I am trying to establish the father of Susan. He has to be a brother of
Eleanor, therefore also a child of Weir and Elizabeth. Does anyone on list
have a connection to Weir who I found on 1830 Henry Co census?
