Dear Casada friends and relatives,
One of the URL's I provided in my 20 Sep 99 message was wrong. The MindIt
service at mindit.com should have been mindit.netmind.com <A
HREF="http://mindit.netmind.com">. As I mentioned earlier, it is a handy tool
for automatically monitoring GenForum's family forum pages (or any other
Internet page). Speaking of which, I just recently added the following
information to Kenna Dossett's 7/05/98 posting in search for Lewis CASADA's
father on the Casada Family Genealogy Forum page at <A
HREF="http://genforum.genealogy.com/casada/">.
///////////// the message as posted ///////////////
Here is the latest information that I have regarding my family line descending
from the line from Lewis A CASADA (I don't know what the "A" stood for), born
Jan 24, 1820, in Wayne Co, Kentucky, (not to be confused with his apparent
cousin, Lewis Stenson CASADA , born nearby about 1823, who's father was
Abraham CASADA).
As for making the connection between the two or locating Lewis A's father, we
seemed to have reached a dead end. There was another Casada born about this
same time named Bloomer CASADA (also spelled CASSIDA), who apparently was the
brother of the Lewis A and the brother-in-law of Lewis S (some people believe
that he may have been the same person as one of the Lewis', but I have seen
much evidence that this was not the case).
My most recent discovery is that according to information provided to me by
Dorothy L Casada (3822 Jewett Ave, Highland, Indiana 46322; I don't think that
she has an email address and I'm not sure what I did with her phone number,
but I think that it may be listed under her husband's name, Edgar Casada),
Lewis A's name was spelled "CASSIDY" on his marriage to Sarah Anderson record
of 1845 and Lewis S's name spelled "CASADY" on his marriage to Elizabeth
Stodgill record of Aug 23, 1842. Also, it seems that Lewis S's father,
Abraham, signed his name "CASADY" upon buying 100 acres in Wayne Co, KY, on
Sep 10, 1807 (apparently, he could read & write). Since I have already seen
that Lewis A's last name was apparently spelled "CASADA," "CASSIDAY," and
"CASADY" in his Civil War records at <A
HREF="http://www.concentric.net/~spence1/tim/records/files/lewiscas.html">, to
me, this all adds up to strong evidence that Lewis A's father could have
spelled his name with one of the variations with a "y" on the end.
Dorothy also seems to think that there is a good chance that we are of German
or Austrian ancestry, but I kind of doubt that, given all the Irish running
around that same area of Kentucky with similar name spellings.
If you have any information that can help make any connections here, please
post a reply here (at the Casada Family Genealogy Forum) or email me at
casada(a)mytalk.com <casada(a)mytalk.com>, which is an email account that I
recently set-up to disimulate Casada related info. To use the MyTalk account,
you can either log in at mytalk.com <A HREF="http://www.mytalk.com"> or call
just call 1-888-700-9848 and tell the computer the extension number 1703, and
then say 1,2,3,4,5,6 for the password (their computer is set up to understand
your voice, or you can also enter the same information using the telephone
keypad). I would recommend that you first ask their computer to "play the
introduction" to get an idea of how it works.

Bud,
I have been finding some info on a Michael Cassidy of Drumgormly townland in
Devenish parish. He was accused of being a Ribbonman in 1826 (acquitted) and
listed as registering to vote in 1839. I don't know when he died, but he was
not listed in Griffith;s in 1862. I am wondering if he was a brother to my
Patrick, born 1804.
I don't suppose you have any more info? maybe children's names?
Janet C-S
My gggrandmother was Alice Cassidy. She was born in 1824 in County Wicklow
and emigrated to the US, settling in Wisconsin. Alice married William K.
Carroll. At least four of her siblings also settled just outside
Janesville, Rock County, Wisconsin: Bridget (born 1810, married Edward
Balf), Margaret (born 1820, married Michael Beggs), Bernard/Bryan/Byron
(born 1823, married Catherine Gamble) and Michael (born 1824, never
married.) Another sister must have stayed in Wicklow because Michael's will
shows a nephew Michael "Tummey" residing in Wicklow.
Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated.

OK folks, time once again to put some info out there on your
Cassidy/Cassity/Cassady (etc etc) lines.
Tell us some pertinent facts about one of your ancestors, enough that maybe
we could make a connection (but not every scrap of info you have---save that
for the book you're gonna write someday).
Include DATES (even if approximate) and PLACES. (You may know you mean
Liverpool England;someone else may think you mean Liverpool NY.)
There's a lot more folks on this list than there used to be--maybe someone
will connect with you. And if someone does, SHARE that fact with the rest of
us, ok? It gets lonely here sometimes. :-)

Dear Casada friends and relatives,
The response from my last mailing in July to all of you was so strong that I
was somewhat overwhelmed in getting back to everyone personally. My email
list of Casada's and Casada friends is now at 158. I've tried to contact
everyone individually who asked me questions, but I'm afraid that in many
cases, I didn't know the answer.
To update everyone on what I've been doing regarding my "Casada" related
genealogy research, I haven't been doing too much real research lately. As I
mentioned in my last message, I opened up a site at a service called My Family
<A HREF="http://myfamily.com">, but I still haven't done much with it yet. I
just learned how to use this scanner, so maybe I can get some old pictures set
up on this site soon. Once I get to working on that project, I'll be asking
you to sign up with this site, so that I can get more free memory to use on
it. It seems that the amount of memory they will give you depends on how many
members that you can get to sign up with you (all at no charge), and those
pictures do require a lot of memory.
As for starting a "Casada" mailing list with Rootsweb or any of the other
Internet services, I've changed my mind; it would be just too much work for me
right now. Instead, I've discovered a very useful service at Mind-it <A
HREF="http://mindit.com">, which I personally use to automatically monitor the
Casada Family Genealogy Forum page at <A
HREF="http://genforum.genealogy.com/casada/">. Now whenever anybody posts
something new, I get an email message telling me that there has been a change
in the page and then I can go check it out, as I find the time to do so. I
think that this is really more handy than actually having a formal mailing
list, and would highly recommend this service to anyone else.
Another thing I've done is to open a joint "Casada" email account with the My
Talk service <A HREF="http:mytalk.com"> in order to share all of the Casada
related information and email's that I have received so far. This is really a
neat service because all you need to use it is a telephone. Just call
1-888-700-9848 and tell the computer the extension number 1703, and then say
1,2,3,4,5,6 for the password (their computer is set up to understand your
voice, or you can also enter the same information using the telephone keypad).
I would recommend that you first ask their computer to "play the
introduction" to get an idea of how it works or you can simply log on from the
Internet too, using your own computer.
What I think is neatest about this service is now anyone interested in Casada
family genealogy will be able to call in and listen or leave voice mail
responses to the messages, without having to have access to a computer. So
please pass this phone number on to everyone you know who may be interested.
On the negative side, this is a regular type email account that I'm giving you
access to, so please don't delete any messages off of it other than your own.
To email any new messages to this account, simply send them to
<casada(a)mytalk.com>.
In addition, to the information that I have, I have also been forwarding to
this My Talk service all the Roots Web "Cassidy-L" messages that I have been
receiving from their mailing list subscription. So far, everything on this
account has been forwarded there by me (that's why it shows me as the sender
to all the messages), so if you need the email address of anyone listed on it,
you may have to get hold of me first. I'm not going to transfer my own email
list of Casada's to its address book, because I consider that to be
confidential information. Instead, I would recommend that you log on to this
site and enter any such information in its address book yourself.
Well that's all I got to say at this time. Please let me know what you think
of all of this and feel free to offer any suggestions. Later, cousins.

Ship Alknomac, Capt. Hicks, departed Sligo on 3 Oct 1811, passengers landed
at Newport RI on 24 Dec 1811. 79 passengers.
Departed Sligo on 3 Oct. On the night of 13 Dec, the ship ran ashore on
Martha's Vineyard. The crew and passengers were saved and remained at Old
Town for nine days. Capt. Hicks provided a sloop in which the passengers
embarked for NY. This sloop was driven ashore on 24 Dec at Newport RI, where
the crew and passengers were again landed. The passengers travelled by land
to NY in small parties; eight arrived before 18 Jan 1812, of whom the names
of six were published: Patrick McBride, James M'Intire, John O'Rorke, John
Rooney, Bartholomew M'Garry, Owen Cammins.

While at Morivlle Bay awaiting customs clearance, the Mary, the Bristol and
two other American vessesl were boarded by the crew of His Majesty's
schooner Barbara under Lt. Morgan. Crewmen and passengers were seized and
all were very roughly treated. The people of Londonderry were appalled at
this action, but they blamed the commanding officer, not their own
government.
Elizabeth Cassidy.
Ship Calpe, from Dublin, arrived at New York on 28 Jul 1817.
Peter Cassidy, Co Louth.
It is all the information I have on it.

Marilyn,
I try to maintain information on members of the Cassidy Family from
wherever, in this way I hope to find connections with my St. Louis
Cassidy Family but also try to help others connect with their cousins.
In Feb. 1998, I logged your information on this family as Vincent Dillow,
is the Robert and update?

Dear Listers;
For those of you who are wondering about the 1999 Clan Rally, I'm sending
this short report to the Cassidy-L email list and to the Cassidy Clan menbers
who have email. (Some of you may therefore get this twice--sorry!)
I also thought it might be of interest to those of you who are not (yet?)
Clan members. You can also read a short report on our web page
(www.CassidyClan.org) under Clans of Fermanagh Rally.
Election results:
Chairperson: Nuala Cassidy-White (Armagh)
Treasurer: Cathal Cassidy (Tyrone)
Secretary: Oliver Cassidy (Clare)
Historian: Tom Cassidy (pending acceptance)
New board members: Leslie Cassidy (New York)
May Cassidy (Dublin)
(Thanks to all members who sent in their proxy votes for Nuala!)
Friday evening we had a get-acquainted reception with music provided by two
local teens (a brother and sister) who entertained us with traditional fiddle
and accordion music.
Saturday's lectures (The Devenish Summer School) featured Fermanagh author
and local historian John B Cunningham who spoke about emigration patterns,
and Shane McAteer from the Ulster Hostorical Foundation who spoke to us about
available sources for Northern Ireland genealogical research.
For me the absolute highlight of the weekend was the Saturday evening
ceilidh (following the banquet) featuring the performance by Na Caiside.
This was undoubtably the best traditional music I've heard!
I also greatly enjoyed the trip to the Ulster Folk Park in Co Tyrone on
Sunday.
It was decided that next year's Rally will be a Clans of Fermanagh Rally, in
coordination with the other active Fermanagh Clans, and open to anyone who
traces family to Co Fermanagh, regardless of the name. Exact date to be
announced, but early September.
More details, and details of an exciting new Clan project involving a Holy
Well in Ballycassidy will be in the next issue of the newsletter due out in
early November.
