Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I cam across this reference in some notes, so I throw it out to the list.

I've been tracking this family because I find them in the 1900
Census living in the same building as my Gr Grandmother (Margaret Cassidy)
and her famaly. My Gr grandfather died in 1898 at the age of 48.
Also my 86 year old cousin remembers her father talking of a cousin of his
named Michael Cassidy. My
assumption is that they are related to my Cassidys.
Michael Cassidy dies in 1937 in Queens. On his death cert his father is
listed as Patrick Cassidy and mother Anna Finan.
Lizzie (Elizabeth) Cassidy's maiden name is McAuley.

in 1893. I do not know yet what happens to the 3 daughters. I find them in
no graves and havent found any names on John and Patrick's childrens
baptismal sponsors that would fit them if they married. I cant find John
and Patricks marriage licenses and I've written all the churches in
Greenpoint open at the time and they havent found them either. So the
daughters probadly were married in the same locatoion as their brothers but
I dont know where that is yet.

Is there anyone co-ordinating the data for American Cassidys other than the
pre-Revolutionary Southern ones we focus on in the Cassity/Cassidy Family
Association? We're not being snobbish, but we do have a limited focus in our
Cassity/Cassidy Family Association database. Our original focus was just on
the descendants of the Cassity family that was in Tygart's Valley in present
day Randolph Co. WV. But we have recently expanded a bit to include the
other Cassidys who were also in the South, and some in PA, before the
Revolution... partly because we can't be sure they aren't connected to our
Tygart's Valley group. Therefore, we aren't including ALL the Cassidys in
America in our database. But I have been asked more than once to include
other Cassidy lines that came to America later and wondered if there is
someone else I can refer these people to.

The Cassidy Clan is trying to gather data for all Cassidys, thru Nuala
Cassidy-White, but we are not at the point of putting it on a searchable
database.
Nuala? Do you want this info funneled to you?
I also intend to do one for thedescendants of my immigrant ancestor, but
haven't done it yet.

represented. As always let us know if you find any errors or if you can add

THE CASSIDY FAMILY
Family tradition has it that William Cassidy came to America when he was
14 (1861) from Tralee(?) Mayo(?). Unable to find
work he volunteered to serve with the Grand Army of the Republic in a
New York outfit. (We have not checked any Civil War
records yet.) A Civil War sword was, lamentably, thrown out when the
Barbieris moved out of the Lenox Road house in the
50's. Information below was partly drawn from a 1900 census record. We
know from a reference in correspondence that Ellen
was Mamie's Aunt, but we're not sure whether she was from the Cassidy or
the O'Brien side. Mamie was a suffragette. We are
currently not aware of any surviving Cassidy relatives but we think
they're out there somewhere. Some of William's sibs may have gone to
Australia.

Ok, here is my Cassidy which nobody seems to have any information on.
Mine did not come to America until late 1889. The family settled in
Joliet, IL. It was John Cassidy and his second wife, Ellen. There were
several daughters: Rebecca, Isabella, Hannah Ann, and a younger brother,
John. Hannah Ann went on to marry William Lewis, also an immigrant in the
Illinois area. Since the 1890 census is destroyed, I cannot find any
information on this family. I do not know Port of Entry so I cannot
obtain any immigration information. Does anyone know this family or have
information on the most direct Point of Entry for people who settle in
Joliet. It is thought they may have settled there because they already
had family there. This family may be connected back in Ireland or
Scotland to Cassidys who migrated earlier. Thanks for your time and any
response is appreciated.

Cathy,
Thanks for posting!
Have you tried to find a naturalization for you John Cassidy? Try local area
courts in Joliet area. Have you checked the 1900 and 1910 censuses? I think
both of them tell whether the person is a naturalized citizen. It will also
tell year married.
I would also try to track more info on the daughters (if you haven't done
already.) Maybe a marriage record, or even an obit would give birthplace.
Did John marry Ellen in Ireland? If you knew Ellen's maiden name (try to get
her her death certificate) you could send to Ireland for their marriage
record. Both were married and probably born after civil registration started
in Ireland (1864). Since John Cassidy is a fairly common name, you will want
to have a little more to go on before you ask for that, but once you have the
marriage narrowed down to a year, you should be on your way!
As for port of entry, one possibility is New Orleans. Many people who settled
the in the midwest landed there and traveled up the Mississippi. But by 1899,
train service between NY and the west was fast and reliable.
Anyway, I've given you some ideas to try. Good luck!

I am looking for details on the death of (James) Harvey Cassity,B. 1810,
KY,to Isaac Newton Cassity and Sarah Armstrong. He married Susan
Carrington and they had at least 3 children, one being my Great
Grandfather, (William) Henry Cassity, born 1842.
By the 1850 census, Henry and his two sisters Mary and Sarah are living
with their grandparents, Timothy Carrington and Mary Lane Carrington in
Bath Co, right near what is now the Bath/Menifee Co. line. We assume
this means that Harvey and Susan were both deceased by this time. Does
anyone have any further information to share?
