HI,
Just curious--why do you think the birthplace was Ballycassidy? Is it info
passed down in the family?

Chris,
To help people connect, you might want to add some approximate dates, figured
from death cert if you have them, or based on dates of marriage & children's
births. Just take a good guess and say "about". BUT without the wonderful
stories and the personalities, genealogy is just names and dates and BORING!
The stories are what we all hope to find. You are lucky to have them.
Good luck with the research.
Janet C-S
Guess I will take this opportunity to add my information to everyone else's
although there really isn't much of it I'm afraid. I've had far better luck
with other branches.
Frank Birdlow Cassidy
Born in Morristown, Tenn. ( I do not have written confirmation of his birth
here or date of birth)
Father of:
Ruth Cassidy
and
Eugene Herbert Cassidy Sr.
Born in Windom (or) Dennison, Texas, February 24, 1889
Died in Hanford, California August 13, 1968
Eugene married Gertrude: Date and location unknown
Gertrude Flowers of Sulpher Springs, Texas
Born in Sulpher Springs, Texas, June 23, 1885
They move to San Francisco and then Hanford, California. Don't know dates.
Opened first of four shoe stores in 1921 in Hanford. They become the parents
of:
Eugene Herbert Cassidy Jr.
Born June 30, 1924, Hanford, California
Died April 2, 1985, Hanford, California
and a twin
Elizabeth (Betty) Cassidy Lawson
Born June 30, 1924, Hanford, California
Still living
Eugene (Gene) Cassidy Jr. is the father of:
Christine Cassidy Schutz
Born April 25, 1950, Santa Barbara, California
Mother - Mary Louise Crass Cassidy (Spindler)
Died - August 18, 1988, Hanford, California
Gene and Mary divorced in 1961.
I am Chris (Christine). Have recently had success with the Flowers line of my
Grandparents but the Cassidy's continue to hide from me. It is my
understanding that Frank Birdlow Cassidy, my ggrandfather came from a large
family in Morristown, Tenn. The story is that the family was prospering and
children being educated but the mother died when Frank ( the youngest ) was
about 12 or 14. Then things took a downward turn financially. A family of
farmers came through Morristown on their way to Texas. Franks father made an
agreement with them that they could take Frank and he would work for them in
trade for an education. Seems the agreement was broken. Frank worked but was
not educated. I was told 20 years ago that the original Cassidy family home
still stands in Morristown and was converted into a mortuary. Big home with a
copper dome or something.
This doesn't exactly take my little branch back to Ireland but I can tell you
that my Grandfather was certainly proud of his Irish heritage. The shoe stores
were called Cassidy's with a motto of pure blarney. "Don't spend your life two
feet from happiness." The back door of the Hanford store was green from day
one, with clovers all around. And I have seen a picture of him dressed as a
leprechaun in a field of cabbage. He gave out green carnations to everyone he
saw on each St. Patricks Day and was a great guy to have for a grandfather as
you can tell. (In the late 20's-early 30's he was mayor of Hanford for 12
years. Imagine what the campaign slogans must have been like!)
I apologize for the lack of formality in my information. I am not yet fluent
in the formats of Genealogy. This of course is more personal than factually
specific. The draw to gathering this information for me is revealing the
personalities of the people behind the names. And who better to begin with
then the Grandfather that filled so much of my childhood with laughter. If any
of these folks seem to fit into your lines I would LOVE it and love to hear
about it.

OK everyone, the info we have been waiting for--how to join the Cassidy Clan
association and info on the Clan Rally this summer in Fermanagh.
Wouldn't it be great if a whole group of us could get there?
Janet
Alright, since we have new people, I'll gladly post my line hoping to make a
new contact. My Cassity/Cassidy line comes from County Fermanagh, Ireland.
They were in Augusta Co. VA by the mid-1700's. I believe I am descended
from Peter Cassity Sr. who was probably born c.1720 and died after 1792
probably in KY. He had several children, among them John, William, Peter
Jr. and David. I am not certain which of those sons I am descended from...
thought it was John, but now I'm not sure.
In any case, these Cassitys came to KY starting in the spring of 1787 and
settled in what was then Fayette Co. KY. As the counties were formed they
were found in Clark, Montgomery, Fleming, Bath by 1820. Their descendants
spread out to other counties as they were formed. Associated names with
these early VA/KY Cassitys were Armstrong, Ashby, Thompson, Levit, Crouch,
Breeding, Carpenter, Blair, Ratliff, Trumbo, Yokum, Wells, Brown, Ellington,
Steele and others.
I am definitely descended from Jonathan Cassity, born c.1787 KY or VA, died
c.Jan 1877 Bath Co. KY. He married Mary Frances? Armstrong, born c.1795 KY;
died c.May 1863 Bath Co. KY.
Jonathan Cassity m. Mary Frances? Armstrong
|
William Franklin Cassity b.12 Aug 1817 Bath Co. KY; d.1895/6 Lewis Co. KY;
m.1 Mary Jane Kissick
m. 2 Hannah Sparks
|
David Allen Cassidy b.18 Nov 1868 Bath Co. KY; d.22 Dec 1954 Lewis Co. KY
m. Margaret Jane Aldridge
|
William Owen Cassidy b.3 Nov 1891 Lewis Co. KY; d.22 Nov 1894
m. Hannah Pauline Harrison
William Owen was my grandfather. I'd love to hear from anyone who thinks
they connect to these Cassity/Cassidys!!
