I personally think the two of you are a couple of pompous

I stated on my website that I was NOT listing sources but would gladly give
them if ask. When I update my pages later this month, I will certainly
make it clearer that the ancestors I have listed for Peter Sr. are NOT
verified by me and are listed only for consideration! Sorry if I led
someone down the wrong path or added to the dissemination of erroneous
information.

Hi CASSIDY, CASSITY, CASSADA, CASSADAY, etc, researchers,
Our Cassidy list now has 57 subscribers. Most are subscribing in list (rather
than digest) form. But traffic is still slow.
Remember, your chances of making a Cassidy family connection are better if you
post family info too, instead of just waiting for somone else to post info
that you recognize.
Why not pick a different ancestor each week and post what you know about that
person. Where possible, include places and dates (even if just approximate).
Don't get discouraged if you don't connect with someone immediately. The more
the list grows, the better your chances.
Janet C-S
Linda,
Eventhough your database concentrates on the WHOLE Cassity line, you do NOT
list a single reference to Your SOURCES.
I for one, would be VERY interested if you would share your sources.
Previous attempts to locate the persons you say you got your info from
cannot be found or verified.
Where did YOU get YOUR information and how accurate is YOUR data.
Now don't misunderstand me, I am not trying to be rude or sound angry, but I
TOO am a direct descendant of some of the same Cassitys' of Bath county,
Kentucky and I want to help you and everyone else with finding ACCURATE and
DOCUMENTED records.
Let's all help each other.
Originally, Jim's CASSITY WED SITE is where I found my first major jump on
the Cassitys'. When I contacted him, he told me that he got most of the
lineage for his site from you. When I finally contacted you, you said you
got your info from XXXXXX. Several long distant phone calls and many
frustrating deadend leads have still left me wanting. :-)
Do you have documented sources you can share or would you refer us to the
person or persons that gave YOU your database, please.....

Now, to answer a previous question of yours about my Alvin Cassity and his
wife Ellen, (maiden name still unknown):
These articles in the Owingsville, Kentucky Outlook Newspaper read:
Owingsville Outlook, Thursday 16th of February 1899 (verbatim):
Mrs. Ellen Cassidy (Cassity), widow of Alvin Cassidy (Cassity), died of
paralysis aged 72 years old, last Friday at her home near Stepstone, (Bath
county, Kentucky).
Burial in the JOHN POWERS BURYING GROUND.
She left some children among who are JOHN and VENETTA, living at home; MARY
of Farmers and JESSIE of Sideview, Montgomery county, Kentucky.
______________________________________________________________________
Owingsville Outlook, Thursday the 23rd of February 1899:
Mrs. Alvin Cassity, who had a paralytic stroke about two weeks ago, died
Friday a week ago, aged about 73 years old. Left five children: Venetta
and John at home; Jessie of near Winchester, Kentucky, Mrs. CHARLES BAILEY
of ROCKVILLE, KY., and Thomas of Mechanicsburg, Illinois.
Burial at the (John) Powers buring ground. Stepstone.
__________________________________________________________________________
Here is some additional info for you... (Notice how it is DOCUMENTED):
From the Book, A History of Bath County Kentucky, by J. A. Richards,
page 456 and 457:
He states that one of the earliest stations or forts of the county was
built in 1777 by Peter Cassity. As far as is know, Peter is one of
the earliest settlers in this part of the county, (stepstone).
Today this land is owned by a Mr. Thomas Garrett and the old Fort is
just a short distance of his present home. (In my research, I, Johnny
Mack Souder, found that Thomas Garrett is deceased but his son,
Sherman Garrett is alive living in Owingsville, Ky. and seems to know
nothing of this history in talking with him and his wife.)
The book goes on to say that some of the earliest settlers in this
area were, among others: Asa Cassity, Peter Cassity.
Prominent citizens today, at the time of the writing of this book,
were mentioned as Leonard Cassity and Cabert Cassity. (From
conversations with locals from that area, these two Cassitys' are now
deceased. I was told that Leonard died around 1970's.)
On the 3rd of July 1996, I, (Johnny Mack Souder), found the following
information in the Owingsville county Court House:
In the the Estate settlement book #13, page 95 and 96, shows that on
the 10th Day of March 1888 the administrator of Alvin's estate was his
son JESSE, took out $121.00 to give to his widow, ELLEN, and his
infant, THOMAS CASSITY. After his estate was settled on 10 Mar 1888,
his estate ended with a total sum of $454.00
________________________________________________________________
In the 1840 Census of Bath county, Alvin, as well as many many more
Cassitys', are found
in the East and West Slat area of the county. Alvin is listed in the WEST
SLAT area.
One of Alvin and Ellen's children was MARTHA CASSITY.... Martha was my Great
Grandmother. I have an Aunt living in Florida who remembers Martha Cassity
(Bailey) and has told me stories about her. I know where her home was in
Morehead, Kentucky.
I am willing to share...

PATRICK HENRY CASSIDY b 1807 in Huntingdon Co., PA, (parents may have
been PATRICK AND MARY CASSIDY). He m CATHERINE SAUCE Nov 20, 1843 in
Washington, Davies Co., IN. They may have had a son named JAMES or
FRANCIS. On June 20, 1849 he was married to MARGARET CARNAHAN, b IN
1829, d 1851. Their daughter, REBECCA JANE CASSIDY, was born Aug 10,
1851. By 1864 Patrick was in Josephine Co., OR where he married Mrs.
RHODA DUNLAP. They moved to Humboldt Co., CA where his dtr, REBECCA,
married WILLIAM WINFIELD SCOTT JOHNSON on Nov 18, 1874. PATRICK died
in Ferndale, Humboldt Co., CA on July 4, 1878 and is buried there.
Does any of this connect to anyone else's research? Thank you.
Marna Stansberry
Johnny,
I, too, am interested in finding out where Linda's info came from. Linda told
me it came from a Charles (Chuck) Cassidy, and sent me his address in this
note :
<snip> I found the phone number and address I had for Charles (Chuck)
Cassidy.... this is 3 years old so may not be valid any longer. Charles
Cassidy; P.O.Box 1574; Thompson Falls, MT 59873; 406-827-3038. I did write
to him at this address after time passed and I never received the promised
info from him.... but I got no response to my letter.
<snip>
I also want to find out Charles's source of info, as my Cassidys also came
from Devenish parish in Fermamangh. I intended to contact him, but thought
I'd wait till after the holidays.
I think we ALL need to keep in mind, however, when we come across info that
seems to fit our lines, that we must VERIFY ALL INFO ourselves. NEVER take as
indisputable truth what someone gives you. Make every effort to check the
sources given. Linda's Cassity webpage is interesting as a possible clue or
lead to other info, but no unverified source should ever be taken as "gospel."
If we simply take what we find in a book or on a webpage as true, we risk
repeating misinformation or leaps to conclusion.
