Well, Bonnie I wish I could help you out. I too have been researching my Castle/Cassell
family and trying to figure it all out is a bit of job. I have been examining the
Cassells from Smiths Falls/Montague Twp. Lanark Co. to see if there is a connection
between my Cassells from Dundas Co. (Morrisburg) a little east and south of Smiths Falls.
So far no luck only confusion.
So far, in the 1901 census I have found a Thomas Cassell living in Montague Twp (just
outside of Smiths Falls) with his widowed mother and her children. This Thomas was b. 18
Jul 1889 in Ontario, religion Anglican, "tribal origins" English. Mother's
name Mary b.28 Apr 1848 Ontario.
I have also found a Thomas Cassell b. 1886 Smiths Falls who married a Gertrude Evans 8
Jan 1906 in or around Smiths Falls. But that doesn't jive with your information,?
In any event, I will keep my eyes peeled for information and if you find a connection
between my Cassells from Morrisburg and yours from Smiths Falls, please let me know.
My line of Cassells (Castle prior to 1840) were from Evenlode, Gloucestershire England and
emigrated circa 1833 to Morrisburg. James Castle b. 1799 in Evenlode/d. 1852 Morrisburg
had a brother who remained in England..a line I have traced but can't seem to get a
grip on James' children here in Canada.
Hope I have helped some..
Sue in Lanark Co. Ontario
