I believe the following notes I have for an Almira Olney may pertain to your Almira. I
have included queries you and others have posted re. her.

Possibly the Almira ("Almyra") Olney who is listed in the 1850 census in Monroe
Co., MI, Whitford Twp.; p. 604 She is age 19, b. NY. She is living with a James Parker,
age 26, b. MI, and his wife Jane, age 25, b. NY. I believe this may be Jane Olney,
Almira's older sister.

Possibly the Almira Olney mentioned in the following communication received on the date
given:
I am trying to get information on Almira Olney who married James W. McAllister 15 April
1845 in Jackson County, Michigan. According to census records she was born in NY possibly
around 1818/1819. She died late 1885 or early 1886 in LaBette County KS. I have a copy
of their marriage license. James W. is my husbands gggrandfather.
Any information you have would be greatly appreciated. I have nothing on her except what
is in this e-mail.

Subject: Robert B. Cassell
Message: My ggrandfather's name was Robert B. Cassell aka Robert B. McAllister (he was
raised with this name). His obituary states that he was born in Ashtabula, Ohio on
September 3, 1841. I do not
know his father's name, but mother was Almira Olney. Almira remarried when Robert was
4 in Michigan.
Does anyone have a line that just dead ends with a Robert?

Subject: Almira Olney nee Cassell and McAllister
Message: I am seeking information regarding Almira Olney. I believe her first marriage
was to a Cassell and a son was born in Ohio in 1841 - Robert B. Her second marriage was to
James W. McCallister in Jackson Co, MI in 1845.
As McCallister (McOlister), family lived in Michigan during the 1850's (Roxana Co) and
1860's (Berrien Co). The family then moved to Kansas.

I find the following information on Olneys in Labette Co., KS
http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/archives/labette/1901/153-165.shtml#15402
The first intimation that the public generally had that a town was to be located at this
point was on October 26, 1870, when L. F. Olney, a civil engineer, got off the train and
inquired of some parties at work on the ground where the city of Parsons is now built, if
they could tell him where Parsons was located, saying he had come to lay off a town.
Nothing was done by him for several days excepting to look over the ground and make
observations.

The building of a town was determined upon by railroad gentlemen of high official
position, and in the fall of that year, L. F. Olney, of Parkersville, Morris Co., Kan.,
the engineer who had been appointed to survey and plat the town arrived upon the ground.

I recently found a web site with excerpts of an old Labette Co., KS, newspaper. A William
Olney is listed in several paragraphs. That William Olney was apparently born abt. 1802.
I believe there is quite likely a connection. I will post those paragraphs in the notes
section for Almira's father, William.

But the best news we have heard for these many days, is the recent decision of the
secretary of the interior in the land contest between W. P. Olney, aged 76 years, and M.
L. Smith, aged 21 years. The decision was righteously rendered and in accordance with the
wishes of a large majority of our people in favor of father Olney, who has made proof and
payment on the same and is now lord of the land which has been long in litigation. Thank
fortune the old gray-headed man will not now be sent to the poor house as was the desire
of some, for the land to which he has a clear title with fifty acres in cultivation will
keep him his remaining days.
For right is right, since God is God,
And right the day must win;
To leave one claim is disloyalty,
And to jump a claim is sin.
Yours, etc.
