Dear Corey
It's obvious you have done a lot of research on the Cassell family. I wonder if you
will be able to help me - my grandfather, William Cassell (might be Castle or Cassel - my
mother was not clear about this)was English. He worked in India for John Taylor and Sons
in Kolar Gold Fields (a gold mining town in South India) in the early 1900's and he
seems to be in his late 50's or early 60's in the photograph taken with my
grandmother - again, it's not clear if he married her - she was a Hindu convert. Their
first child a girl died at 15 days old leaving my mother who was born in 1923 as an only
child - he left India for a long awaited year-long holiday - or so she was told - when she
was about 6 - made sure she was well provided for as what they called a first class
boarder so that she would have what my grandmother called "an English"
unbringing. My grandmother was told shortly after that he died of a heart attack - the
Company (John Taylor & Sons) made sure that both my mo!
ther and grandmother were well provided. My mother completed her high school in the
Convent and while a nurse in the Indian Army in 1945, she met my father - a Nepali and
freemason to boot!!! which is another story.
What I would like to know is what happened to my grandfather - did he have another family
in the UK? Is it possible to get any information - I have tried but am unable to access
any information.
Rather a long story, but I hope you can at least advise me.
Thanks
