I am hoping someone on the lists can help me with
these people. Anyone having any information on them
will be greatly appreciated. I have been looking for
my gggrandfathers parents for quite awhile. I have
found he was an orphan.
This may be a lengthly e-mail but I have alot of
information that is just speculation and am hoping
someone can help me prove or disprove its contents.
Jacob Durham married Rebecca Cassell 23 Nov. 1837 in
Pickaway County, Ohio. From this union I beleive there
were six children,
Jacob,John,Harrison,Rebecca,Samuel, and Elizabeth.
I think Jacob Sr. died before 1850, he could be the
Jacob Durham buried in Hays Family Cemetery, Pickaway
County, who died at the age of 45 in 1847.
I found Rebecca Durham, age 33, in Pickaway County,
Monroe Twp in 1850 living with John Castle. With her
is John, Harrison, Rebecca, and Elizabeth. Jacob was
living with David and Elizabeth Cardiff, Samuel was
with Samuel and Elizabeth Chester.
In 1851 Pickaway County a Rebecca Durham married
Washington Riggins, 16 Jan 1851. Does anyone know if
this is the same Rebecca that married Jacob Durham?
Sometime after the 1850 Pickaway census I find that
most of the children named above were in Vermilion
County, Illinois, in 1860. Those children were; John
living with the Andersons, Samuel still living with
the Chesters, and J
acob living with David and Sarah Cardiff. I found that
David Cardiff's second wifes name was Sarah and he
married her in 1855 in Illinois.
I found that Rebecca had married Thomas George in
Vermilion in 1858 and in 1860 they were in Tipton
County, Cicero Twp. in 1860 along with her brother
Harrison. When she married she was listed as an orphan
and Levin Vinson was her guardian. Thomas and Rebecca
later moved back to Vermilion Co. Illinois and they
both died there.
Harrison Durham married Polly a. Gibson 30 Jan 1864 in
Vermilion County, Samuel married Elizabeth Wright 23
Jan 1868 in Vermilion.
In 1870 I could not find John or Jacob but I beleive
that the reason for this is Durham Jacob
*Higginsville* and Durham John *Catlin* on July 3,
1861 joined the 35th Illinois Volunteer Infantry
Muster of Company D. Both died March 7, 1862 at Pea
Ridge, Arkansas.
By 1880 both Harrison and Samuel were in Nebraska. I
think Harrison stayed there but Samuel and his family
moved on to Fort Randall, then Dakota Territory in
1882. Later they settled near Wheeler, South Dakota.
Can anyone tell me if Rebecca died in Ohio or
Illinois? Anyone who can help me with this family line
it would be greatly appreciated.
Barbara
