In response to Al Cassell's plea for contact with Cassell
researchers-- my Cassell line is presumably also from the Palatinate
to Pennsylvania and then to Wythe Co. Virginia. My information on
the Cassel family in SW VA is in pretty good shape. The big problem
is to make a firm documented connection with the Pennsylvania Cassels
and from there back to the old country. I would be most happy to
hear from anyone who has information connecting Nicholas to earlier
generations.
My line goes back to Nicholas Cassell (ca 1748-24 Apr 1816, Wythe
Co. VA). Nicholas was a tailor in Middletown, PA. before he went to
Virginia in ca 1785. He married Rosina Rambacher (b.??- 12 Mar
1777), daughter of David Rambacher, in Pennsylvania 29 Jun 1768.
Nicholas also married Anna Margaret Braun (Brown).
It is said that Nicholas had seven children Michael, Henry, and Mary,
born between 1774 and 1777, and another four: Catherine, John,
David, and Andrew, born between ca 1780 and 1785. It would seem that
Rosina was the mother of the first three children and Anna was the
mother of the last four, but there are conflicting statements on this
question and I have not seen references to documentation that would
clarify the matter. I would be most grateful for any information on
these issues.
Michael, (ca 1775-8 Jan 1852), son of Nicholas, married Elizabeth
Simmerman (Zimmerman, or Carpenter) (ca 1774-ca 1860. I know nothing
of her family and would welcome information. Michael and Elizabeth
had nine children including my ggg grandfather, Col. Joseph Cassell
(1802-1881), who married Susan Wisley (1810-1874), daughter of Daniel
Wisley and Elizabeth Davis, in Wythe Co. VA on 22 Dec 1855. Anyone
interested in later generations please contact me. Anyone with
citations to documentation on any of these folks please contact me.
