My great-great-grandfather Peter Cassel arrived in America in 1845. He
established the first Swedish settlement in Iowa. Peter Cassel was the
leader of a group of 25 who left Sweden in May, 1845 and reached New
Sweden, Iowa near what is now Fairfield on 13 September 1845. This was the
first Swedish farming settlement West of the Mississippi. This began a
large Swedish immigration to the American Midwest. "Peter Cassel Day" is
still celebrated in parts of Sweden.

The members of the group of 25 consisted of Peter Cassel and his wife and
five children, John Danielson and his wife and five children, Eric Peter
Anderson who later married in America, Sarah Anderson who later married in
America, John Munson his wife and two children, and Peter Anderson and his
wife and three children.
I have no problem finding Peter Cassel. His name and family information is
on many Swedish websites. However, I have not been able to find any
information on the other members of his group. I would most like to find
John Danielson and his wife and five children. I have searched the DISBYT
Swedish database on various names and spellings including Johan Danielsson,
Jons Danielsson, Jon Danielsson, Daniel Jonsson, and every other
combination I can think of. I have found nothing about them.
Can anybody help me find this man on any database other than my own?
His wife was Elizabeth Anderson and they had five children: John, Andrew,
Matilda, Maria and Frank.
I am also searching for John Munson his wife and two children, and Peter
Anderson and his wife and three children. They were all probably from Kisa,
Ostergotland, Sweden.
I have not been able to find any of these people, but I have found some of
their descendants, so I know that they existed.
