Cassel, Cadwallader, Hamilton, Dickason
My 7th Great Grandfather Johannes Cassel was born in Krisheim (Kriegsheim)
Germany in 1643 (or 1639) and immigrated to America in the late 1670s to
Cresheim which was a part of Germantown, Pennsylvania. His father probably
is Yelles who was born in Switzerland. Johannes and his friends came under
the influence and invitation of William Penn who had visited Krisheim in
1677. The lineage germane to this discussion goes from my maternal grandfather
Hamilton to his maternal grandfathers Cadwalader (or Cadwallader) to his
maternal grandfathers Cassel.
Based on a visit to Germany in October 2000 and follow up homework afterward
I have in hand three documents which present an intriguing history of
Palatinate
Quaker emigrants of Kriegsheim, Germany, including Cassels, who came to
Germantown, Pennsylvania. These documents are:
=================================================
1 - Babtists, Mennonits and Quakers in Kriegsheim, Not previously available
in America, nor in English
2 - Transcribed Excerpts from
William Penn's Travels in Holland and Germany in 1677
(A Summary of William PennÕs Quaker Principles and Recruitment Activities
in Germany & Holland, including Kriegsheim and the Cassel family)
3. Transcribed excerpts from Urban Village, Population, Community, and
Family Structure of Germantown, Pennsylvania, 1683 - 1800, including all
the parts indicating Cresheim (Kriegsheim) in Germany and in Pennsylvania.

Dear Don,
Was very glad to see your posting about new Cassel information. I have
been researching Cassels and other Mennonite ancestors for about 20 years
but always glad to have something new. I have recently been reading a
wonderful book about the history of Mennonites in Europe before coming to
America. Yellis Cassel, our mutual ancestor is prominently mentioned in it
as well as your ancestor Johannes and mine the grandson of Yellis the
preacher, the Yellis Casssel who came in 1727. This book has covered most of
the material in Europe but I'm not sure if it has the material you cite. It
is great reading for anyone who has Colonial Mennonite ancestors in PA and
makes them come alive. I almost forgot to mention the name. it is
"Maintaining the Right Fellowship" by John L. Ruth. I got my copy from the
Mennonite Historians of Eastern PA but it should be in good libraries and
available over the internet book stores.
I would appreciate any information you would care to share via E-mail or
snail mail.
