Hi, I'm Betty Lou Hixson Hunsaker, I often wondered what happen to Sarah, I went to
Salt Lake City and they did a search for Sarah Casady. They found one in the poorhouse,
I'm trying to remember what state I think it was Kentucky.
It seems that during this time period, that when a father died the children were
considered orphans even if the mother was still alive. If the mother could not support
herself she went to the poorhouse where she was (for a lack of a better word) auctioned
off for a period of time like maybe 3 years to be a housekeeper for a family and they
would take care of her. This was the welfare system that was in tack during this time
period. I think this could be her but I'm not completely sure. She was 10 years older
than James Henry. I think they called him Henry. My Great Grandmother Margaret Abagail
Her first son was called Henry and her first daughter was Sarah. My father was James
Henry Hixson
