Diane, I hope you are still on here. I remember years ago when you and I corresponded and
I am relatively sure that it was you that had said that Archibald Cassedy had come from
Northern Ireland "shortly before the American Revolution" with two brothers, one
going south and the other "going west to Pennsylvania and Ohio." I also saw that
on a bill of sale online for Archibald Cassedy, his surname was spelled
"Cassiday."
My immigrant ancestor was David Cassiday, who came here in 1788 with two brothers. David
was born in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, in 1767. He came with two brothers in 1788,
sailing from Londonderry and landing at Virginia. He moved to Washington County,
Pennsylvania and married Rachel Meek. They had their first son there, then moved on to
Wayne County, Ohio and had 8 more children. I am descended from their 6th born, William
Cassiday.
One question... the Irish naming system traditionally had the firstborn son named for the
father's father and the second born son for the mother's father. I do know that
Rachel Meek's father's name was Samuel Meek and her mother was Catherine
(Parkinson) Meek. David and Rachel's secondborn daughter was Catherine. Their
firstborn son was John, firstborn daughter was Esther. Are there any Johns or Esthers in
your early line there?
