Another reason I don't think the Sarah living in the Boarding House as a pauper is my
Sarah Nelson Cassady, is the dates of birth don't match. Common problem with census
records.
If one looks at the marriage record for the two, Cassady is spelled "Casaday".
Sarah is listed as "Sarah M. D. Nelson". It could be argued about the
"D" as the handwriting is elaborate, however, since Sarah's mother's
name was Delilah (Delila), it's most likely a "D". Again, the marriage
record is from Greene County, TN. Her husband's name is shown as "Henry"
not "James", therefore it's likely his military record was also under the
name of Henry. Many cultures (German, Swiss, etc.), tend to call children by their middle
rather than given names.
What records show them in GA?
