All Casses in the US are descended from John Casse or Cass. He was
from
England and came over here in around 1640. Think he arrived at Boston,
and
soon made his way up to Hampton, NH where he m. Martha Philbrick,
dauther
of
Thomas.
If you are interested in the subject John Cass, who was a descendant of the
John Cass
who married Martha Philbrick, here is an item I posted in the NEHGS site's
errata
forum:
There were two John Cass's born in Hampton NH (1687 & 1689), one married
Hannah Gove and lived in Mendon MA. Several sources have him as son of
Samuel & Mercy [Sanborn] Cass (including 'History of the Town of Hampton,
New Hampshire from its Settlement in 1638, ...', and the 'Vital Records of
Mendon, Mass. to the Year 1850'; the latter by providing an incorrect birth
date). Other sources have him as son of Joseph and Mary [Hobbs] Cass. The
latter is correct, and those interested can read a detailed proof provided
by William T. Ruddock in The NY Genealogical and Biographical Record,
October, 2000, page 299.
