H Jon:
I am a direct descendant of John M Cason (b VA, died 1845 Howard County Missouri). John M
was the oldest son of Reuben and Lucy Cason. He moved to MO in the 1830s, following his
brothers George and Fendall Carr. I am primarily researching the John M line - his son
Andrew Jackson Cason (b 1828 VA, d 1861 MO) was my ggggfather.
However, I am running across information relating to Fendall Carr Cason in MO as I sort
through the families of the three brothers. In particular, I have found records
referencing Fendall's land ownership in both Howard and Greene Counties of Missouri.
Fendall appears to have sold his land in Greene county in Jan of 1843, just before leaving
for Oregon as you describe.
Interestingly, a number men instituted civil actions in the Green Co circuit court against
Fendall after he left for Oregon. In all cases, the court ruled in favour of the
plaintiffs as Fendall was not present in the state to answer to these civil actions. One
of the suits was brought to court in the late 1850's to correct a mistake made on a
deed for land sold in 1843.
The Green County website (
www.greenecountymo.org) has an excellent web index/abstracts of
the various land transactions and court actions against Fendall Carr.
Perhaps you know all about these records, so I apologize if I am sending you old news.
However, I found this to be a fascinating look at the remnants of life left behind in MO
as Fendall Carr and his family went on to even greater things in Oregon.
I am happy to exchange information with you or other people interested in these sons of
Reuben and Lucy.
Cheers,
Tracy
