I have traced one part of my line back to this couple. They emigrated to Jackson Co., TN
in early 1800s from Hanover County, VA, living near Gainsborogh, TN. Of the children/wife
listed in his will are in order of appearance:
-wife, Rebecca
-dau, Susannah
-dau, Eliza Coks (Cox)
-heirs of son James Cason, the children of wife Harriet, James and his brother
-grandaughter Malitia
-son Bartlett's three children, James Cason, Martin Cason, and Jane Cason
-granddaughter Edna Anderson
-son Edward (later mentioned as Edward M. Cason)
-heirs of Fanny Anderson (not mentioned except as above)
-William Wilson who married dau Hulda
Also mentioned are Mounce Gore and Edward again as Executors. It appears to have been
signed by James Cason on April 25, 1836. It is witnessed by Mounce Gore and Erasmus Gore.
Evidently it was in book D p. 195-197.
The courthouse in Jackson County burned in the 1870s so this copy appears in a dispute
over the carrying out of the will. I have not seen a reference to this will in any of the
Cason family trees. Most seem to carry this line back in the U.S. to the 1600/early
1700s. Ancestry does have one copy of an SAR application that came through James'
daughter, Elisa S. Cox's family descendants. It seems the application was made 1904.
It clearly states that James Cason came over to this country from Wales. Does anyone have
documentation to show the lineage indeed does go back to earlier generations in this
country? Or was this James Cason the immigrant from Wales? Thanks for responding.
Linda
