Since the Cason site has been so active lately, I thought I'd post my info
again.
My great-great-grandmother was Mollie Cason. At least we knew of her as
Mollie. I believe she was born Mary Cason, but was also called Pollie. I have
her will dated in 1916 that she signed as Mollie.
Mollie Cason married William C. O'Neal (not John O'Neal as I have seen
reported) in Columbia County on October 7, 1866, (according to my gg
grandfather's Civil War pension file). Also, according to the pension file,
she was born in Florida on January 1, 1846.
The 1860 census for Lake City, FL, lists Mollie/Pollie as Mary A. Cason. She
is 15 and living with her parents, Parnell and Elizabeth Cason. In the 1870
census from Columbia County, she is called Polly (age 26). She is listed with
her two sons, Charles and Henry (my great grandfather.) The name above hers
is her husband, William, although he is enumerated with another household.
The family above that contains Parnell and Elizabeth Cason and 4 of their
other children.
I am sure that this Polly is, in fact, Mary/Mollie Cason. I know that Mollie
and Pollie were nicknames for Mary.
Is anyone familiar with this family? Mollie's other siblings were James Cason
(b. 1840), Henry (b. 1842), Wherry (b. 1847), Quintreen (b. 1849), Willoughby
(b. 1851), Lucinda (b. 1853), Elizabeth (b. 1858), Emma (b. 1861), Oscar (b.
1863).
