Fendall Carr Cason, b. Oct 14, 1799 in VA, with wife Rebecca Rawlings (Holladay) Cason, b.
Jan. 23, 1803 in VA, went over the Oregon Trail in 1843, with their children, taking
donation land claim 92. He was a member of the Oregon legislature 1853-54.
Catholic church records of Oregon show the baptism of Fendol Carr (John) Cason (sic), son
of Ruben Cason and Lucy McGhee, on Feb. 23, 1847. Cason was born in Spotsyvania County,
Virginia and was buried at the Mountain View Cemetary in Oregon City. FC Cason is
mentioned on pgs 23-24 of Edward Lenox' book Overland to Oregon. He is listed in the
Oregon Historical Quarterly (OHQ) 4 places, with a biography in History of the Willamette
Valley. Also known as Carr Cason to his family and friends, he was a gunsmith, and
designed a bridge over the Clackamas River.
Children who went to Oregon in 1843 included:
Frances Caroline Cason, b. 1824, m. 1st Dr. John E. Long in1845, and then William B.
Campbell. She died 1883.
Rebecca Rawlings (Cason) Stewart, b. Culpepper Co. VA 9/13/1826, married
Peter Grant Stewart 9/1/1842 and they traveled in the same train to Oregon in 1843 with
her family. She died 10/3/1863
William Alexander Cason, b. 1828, VA, served as Captain against Yakima Indians 1855-1856,
died 1865. DLC 970.
Adoniram Judson (Ad or A.J.) Cason, b. 1829, Va., m. Eliza Glover in 1862. He was
Clackamas Co. Bridge Supt.
James Pulliam Cason, b. 1832 Mo., m. Mary E. Marsh 1853, d. 1887. DLC 5111. Mary was a
survivor of the Whitman massacre of 1847.
Joseph Holladay Cason, b. 1833 Mo., d. 1856 CA.
John Lewis Cason, b. 1836 Mo., m. Mary E. Straight, daughter of ‘43 pioneer Hiram A.
Straight, in 1860.
Thomas Benton Cason, b. June 1, 1840. Died fighting Indians in Idaho.
Benjamin Franklin Cason, 1842-1865.
Fendall was son of Reuben Cason and Lucy McGehee of Louisa Co., VA. Lucy was dau. of John
and Ann (Graves) McGehee; John was son of William and Mary (Carr) McGehee. Reuben was son
of William and Agatha (UNK) Cason; William was son of Edward and Joanna (Butcher) Cason.
Rebecca was daughter of William and Rebecca (Rawlings) Holladay.
