Message Board Post:
I began a few months ago to trace back my line. Luckily my father (81 years old) had
documented back to his gg grandfather, and has a little verbal history.
I'd assumed that, with the internet, if I joined a site most of the work would already
be done for me. I just had to locate John Cason born 1812 died in Tennessee. That
happened and revealed his father was Joseph Cason born 1770, died 1835. But all the trees
on
ancestry.com jumped from him to Thomas Cason Jr. born 1630 died 1665.
That, of course, is an impossible jump since Thomas died 105 years before Joseph was
born.
So, I followed the line the opposite way from Thomas down, and William Lee Cason ends up
in North Carolina. A few trees list a son named Henry Cason and he appears to have a son
named Joseph. Joseph shows up rightfully on a 1790 census in North Carolina as a head of
household (but alone). Same census shows Henry (with wife kids and slaves) on same page
(not together). Joseph then appears on an 1830 census in Tennessee, thus giving me a
pretty good feeling of closure back to John Casson 1584 in Hertfordshire England.
But then Dad tells me that one of the sons of the brothers who left Tennessee for Texas
told him we'd come from Ireland, via South Carolina.
Try as I might I find little to nothing of Cason from Ireland in my searching.
Does anyone know of Irish Casons?
Is the
ancestry.com inputs closer to reality or myth?
Does my fathers conversation (in 1957 to a 90 year old "uncle") have to much
probability for error?
I'm interested in anyones thoughts on this...
Thanks, Kevin
