My Great Grandmother on my Dad's side of the family was Josie Cason Downs.
She was the daughter of Adam T. and Ann Hirdron Jackson Cason of Burke Co,
Ga.
From the True Citizen (Waynesboro Newspaper)
January 14, 1887
Married at the home of the bride's father, in the 65th district on 9th inst.,
Miss Josie S. Cason to Mr. Francis M. Downs of Washington Co. Rev. J.H.
Carswell officiating.
In the Hopeful Baptist Church , Richmond, Co, GA there is the following
Adam T. Cason 5 Sep 1827 d. 14 Nov 1902- According to the Index of Ga
Confederate pension Files, Adam served in Co H, 2nd Ga. State Line .
Josie had about 13 brothers and sisters- I only know the names of a few.
However, there were two brothers, Walter and Robert Cason who went to
Florida- I cannot find Walter but Robert( Uncle Bob) as everyone knew him
went to the Plant City, Hillsborough Co. area and worked in the phospate
mines there and also was involved in citrus growing. Family stories say that
he helped develop the ruby red grapefruit- He was living in Plant City in
1939 for sure and I believe that he died in the late 1950's-
Adam and Ann Hirdron Jackson Cason adopted the child of Ann and her first
husband Andrew Jackson. That child eventually married a Purvis of Washington
Co according to family history though I have not been able to document it.
The following is from the 1900 census of Burke Co after my ggrandmother
Josie Cason Downs was widowed- She is living with her parents, several
siblings and with her 5 children. She is buried in Sandersville, Ga.

Unfortunately, little is known on my family as in my Grandmother's last days
she had some health problems that caused her to think that there was an
infestation of insects in various things in her house which she took out on
the driveway and burned- tragically, three family Bibles were in the
conflagation that my dad said would have made Gen Sherman proud! Anyhow, no
one had ever copied the information and I was not old enough to be aware of
the valuable information that was in them- So again, any one who knows
anything about this family , please get in touch.
