Hi, everyone.
I'm new to the list, so I'll introduce myself. My name is Jaska Cason
(pronounced "YAH-skah"). I was born in MS in 1974, and got interested in
genealogy while I was in high school. I'm currently serving as an Air Force
C-130 pilot, and researching my roots in my (limited) spare time. I'm proud
to say I can name all but one of my great great grandparents, about half of
the previous generation, and dozens of others. But I have a long ways to go.
My Cason ancestry is as follows:
My great-grandparents were Wallace Bernard CASON I (b. 17 Jul 1882 in
Nettleton, MS; d. 25 Dec 1935 in Greenville, MS) and Lottie Mabel STINSON (b.
24 Nov 1895 in Hollandale, MS; d. ?). They were married 7 Jul 1918 in
Vicksburg, MS, and had two boys.
Wallace was the son of Braxton Alexander "Brax" CASON (b. 10 Jun 1855 near
Nettleton, MS; d. 24 Dec 1938 at the Cason homestead near Nettleton, MS) and
Minerva Bernard TARPLEY (b. 23 Mar 1859 near Nettleton, MS; d. 30 Sep 1920 at
the Cason homestead). They were married 14 Nov 1882 at the Cason homestead.
They had four children: Wallace Bernard, John Tarpley, Sarah Elizabeth
"Sally", and Fannie Mae.
"Brax" was the son of Braxton CASON (b. 22 Mar 1811 in Abbeville District,
SC; d. 21 Jun 1887 at the Cason homestead) and Elizabeth HARRIS (b. 11 Jan
1814 in Abbeville District, SC; d. 13 Feb 1884 at the Tapscott homestead in
Lee Co., MS). They were married 19 Dec 1833, and had four children: Narcissa
(m. Lucious Lycurgus TAPSCOTT), William Benson "Bill", Braxton Alexander
"Brax", and Thomas Sumpter "Sump".
Braxton was the son of James CASON Sr. (b. circa 1770 in SC; d. ?) and Mary
DEAL (b. ? in SC; d. ?). They had two sons: Braxton and James Jr.
Most of these are buried at Providence Cemetery in Nettleton, MS. Some are
buried at Porter's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Vicksburg, MS.
Others are at Stoneville Cemetery in Leland, MS.
This is as far back as I can trace my Cason lineage. I've seen a few
postings at
genealogy.com and elsewhere about other Casons in SC, and even
some that mention Abbeville in particular. But I have been unable to find
anything at all about James CASON and Mary DEAL, or their connection with the
other Casons from South Carolina. I know almost nothing about other
Cason-Deal descendants. I would appreciate any information at all. Thanks
in advance.
Sincerely,
Jaska Cason
