Jim,
I am a Louisiana Cason (who now lives in MD) who traces his line back to an
Edward Cason who died about 1785 in either Buckingham or Prince Edward County,
VA. I have only been doing genelogy for 3-4 years. I became interested when my
father, James "Jim" L. Cason passed away in 1992 and I received his genealogy
research notes. I am trying to improve on them (he did not list sources as far
as I could find).
In your files on the Cason family in VA, do you have any records on the 3 men
named "Cassen" who were in the early settlers of Jamestown? I just stumbled
across a list of settlers on a web page devoted to early VA settlers and saw
these three men listed but there was not further information on them.
Likewise, do you have any information on the Cason family in England? I was in
England in April of 1999 and visited a little town called Furneaux Pelham
which is NE of London in Essex (or Hertfordshire ... my map is a little vague)
where an Edwardus Casoni (Edward Cason) is buried inside the local church.
According to the inscription, he was a member of the Middle Temple (lawyer)
who purchased the local estate for which the town is named in the early 1600s.
He died in about 1624/5 and his heirs sold the estated shortly afterwards. I
have been told he was an investor in the Virginia Company. I know of no
evidence linking him to the Cason family in the US but would love to know more
about him.
Have you turned up any Cason links in Jamaica? Considering the importance of
Jamaica to travel from Europe to the Americas, it would seem possible that
visitors or settlers passed through.
I hope that I have not overwhelmed you with questions and I assume the answers
will be of interest in this list,
Ben Cason

I've been researching both the Spotslyvania Co, Va and the Lower Norfolk
Co/Princess Anne Co Va Casons for 40 years and have some 10,000 in my files.
I descend from the original Thomas Cason Sr. who died 1651. I'm a diplomat
now living in
Jamaica. Regards, Jim Cason jimccason(a)cs.com
