Decatur Daily Review, Decatur IL, 7 Nov 1905, pg. 11
Mrs. L. B. Casner died at 8 o'clock Monday night at the residence of her daughter,
Mrs. E. B. Chapman, at Casner, where she had been residing for some time. Her death was
caused by cancer and was rather unexpected. She had been in poor health since last April,
but had only been confined to her bed for about five weeks. At that time she had an
operation performed and the cancer was removed and she appeared to be getting along very
well, but she grew worse a few days ago.
She is survived by four children, Mrs. James Wikoff of Crowley, La., Mrs. John Dawson of
Chicago, Mrs. E. B. Chapman of Casner, and John Casner of Decatur. All the children were
present at her death except Mrs Dawson. She was home a short time ago, but as her mother
appeared better she went back to Chicago. She returned to Casner Tuesday.
Mrs. Casner's maiden name was Mary Eleanor Flanigan. She was born in Montgomery
county, Ind. and was married to L. B. Casner Sept. 22, 1853. Mr. and Mrs. Casner had a
fine residence at the little town which bore their name. They moved to Decatur several
years ago and built the handsome residence on West Main Street now owned and occupied by
Dr. Will Barnes. At that time Mr. Casner was a stockholder in some of the banks of Decatur
and had many other interests, at one time owning 2,000 acres of land in one piece. He died
a few years ago. Mrs. Casner was well known and had many friends. The funeral will be
held at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the residence of Mr. and Mrs. E. B.
Chapman. The interment will be at Long Creek cemetery.
