I have located the following CASNER person on the 1900 WA Census, Jefferson County, Port Townsend City, ED 50, sheet 11A, enumerated 6-13-1900.
Does anyone know to which CASNER line this person belongs?
CASNER, Lizzie (6-1880 ID) father-VA, mother OH. She is single; can read, write, speak English; she is living as a boarder in the home of Wm. H. Constance, his wife, and their two children.
Thanks for any information.
I do have his obituary from the newspaper. I do have his death
certificate.. It says parents unknown. He was a mechanic and a carpenter.
I wrote to the social security administration to get information, but they
said they did not find anything. I do not have his social security number,
there was none on the death certificate. I paid the extra for them to look,
and he is the first one doing that, that I have came up with nothing.
I have searched the census records of that area in Missouri, and came up
empty handed. I did post the ones I did find on the Gen Forum board.
Lena
Robert:
Thanks for helping to get some activity going on this list. Who knows perhaps there is someone lurking out in cyber space and will respond.
The best I can tell my Casner line is not connected to Vandal Casner.
My oldest ancestor is Jonas Casner, who in 1801 marries Nancy Wright in Washington Co., VA. The father of Jonas is John Kestner/Casner; the grandfather of Jonas is John Kestner. That is as far back as I have gotten. I know they were in VA and believe they came out of PA and perhaps the line is originally from Germany - still working on all of this.
Jonas and his family arrive in MO circa 1818 and spread from there; many stay in MO; some get to AR and KS. One son goes to IA where he dies in 1847; but the 12 sons of the one who dies in IA populate all the western states.
I did just this week went back through my documents on Casner people not related to my line, but found nothing that you don't already have.
Good luck.
Well, at least we have some chatter going on this list. Who knows, maybe we will get some additional people to post.
While I watch for information on any Casner when I search (there are so few of them), after reading your post, I have a few questions or some assumptions (there is the word that always gets me in trouble). I'm taking your post with me when I go to MO later this year.
Questions:
(1) Have you located your Isaac Casner on the 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 census records? If so, have you searched census records for the state where the census indicates he was born?
(2) Have you obtained a copy of his death certificate from MO?
(3) Have you checked the local newspaper to see if there were a death notice in the newspaper?
(4) I have much better success in writing to Historical/Genealogical Societies in a county to obtain information on a particular family; generally I send a small contribution to them.
(5) Try the lookup sites on RAGK, Genie Angels, and Helplist; perhaps there is a volunteer there who could assist you. I have had great success going this route.
Just thoughts.
I am seeking information on the following Casner family.
Isaac Casner was born November 30, 1864 in Norborn, Carroll County,
Missouri. Parents and siblings are unknown.
He married Nancy Elizabeth Miller June 9, 1888 in Dover, Missouri. Her
parents are unknown also, as are her siblings.
Their children were :
Gladys Casner born 1894 died 1969, where I do not know. She was married to
Charles Dawson a sewing Machine repairman in Oklahoma. That is all I know
of him. I do not know where or when he died.
Their children were/are:::
Amos Casner no dates on any of the children
"Colonel" William Casner
Mildred Casner
Mary Casner
The next child of Isaac and Nancy was
Estella Casner. I was able to track her down finally, she died in Mercer
County Missouri, 1948.
she was married to John Brouhard, and their children were\are:
Leroy Brouhard died 1991 born in Iowa 1918
Daisy- where abouts unknown, born in Iowa in 1922
Bessie Brouhard- born in Iowa 1925 where abouts unknown, last living in
Kansas City, Missouri and married to a James Walker, this was in 1948.
and one other daughter.
Last child of Isaac and Nancy was\is
Frank "Jasper" Casner born 1905, 1st wife was Dorothy (?) do not know who
other wife might be or where he is.
Isaac Casner died July 31, 1941 in Waverly, Missouri.
he is buried at the Machpelah Cemetery, in Lexington Missouri. His
tombstone says Father on it.
I have gotten no response from either the funeral home or the cemetery to
help solve my mystery of who Isaac's family was as parents and siblings.
If any one has any idea's I would appreciate them. Thank you,

Well, it is a quiet list! ;-)
I'll toss out one: I'm trying to determine the middle name of Lewis E.
Casner, son of Samuel L. Casner and Elizabeth Swearer; born 19 Feb 1836 in
PA. I have seen "Evans" as a middle name, but my aunt insists it is
"Elson". I think that the "Elson" idea comes from his father's second
wife, Susan Elson. However, Lewis was married about the time that Samuel
married Susan, so that name transfer doesn't seem likely to me.

Well, after posting my little note the otehr evening, four responses were received, three of the people I communicate with already. As prolific as my Casner line was, I would hope there would have been lots of them out in cyber space just waiting to learn about their ancestry.
Oh well, will just keep trying. Still want to hear from Casner/Carsner researchers. Let's post to this list and to GenForum.
